Hmmmm called dealer for my 12 month service and told them about Rev 1 to fix the 3-4 flare, was told he didn't think they could do it because I had the first one done, but he would check before my appointment next week I'm sensing they will tell me they didn't or can't do it.

You are one of the few people who's opinion I trust.

The last update a lot of folks said it was great, solved all the transmission's issues bla, bla, bla.

I had it done but I was disappointed in the results....still really crappy shifting and seems my gas mileage may have suffered slightly. (Either that or I'm giving it more gas to overcome the gear-hunting)

Needless to say I'm apprehensive about any new updates.

I just handed them the TSB print out and said, "please perform this TSB."

The service advisor asked if I was having the symptoms listed and I said, "yes."

An hour later I was on the road and couldn't be happier. They also ordered the lower control arm plugs for me.

What is your truck doing? My truck would...r to d surge, d to 1st surge, 3 to 4 flare. Searching gears most of the time, not all the time though...While slowing from higher gears to lower gears, for instance, in to a parking slot in a parking lot clunking ...surge...surge. At times, I thought the truck wouldn't come to a stop while pulling in to my garage to park---surger---surge---stop...scary shit at times. I thought I was going through my garage wall in to my bedroom...

Well after mostly highway driving with the Rev 1, I don't want to jump the gun, but it does feel better. I noticed right off the bat that getting up to speed felt different in terms of shifting.

I'm not sure if a computer can make transmissions shift faster or smoother but it sure feels like this Rev 1 has done that.

Tomorrow morning will be the big test because when my truck is cold in the morning is when I really could feel the rough shifting. I will also drive a bit around town.

So far it feels improved. Worth getting the Rev 1 I would say.

Also, I took a normal 40MPH road that has a good incline after the update. The truck would normally gear hunt up and down to try to maintain 40mph but today it kept its power and I found myself just waiting for that down shift to keep its speed but it was staying in gear the whole time.

Toyota Techs- I have tech stream now. Can we disable the atkison cycle through this tool?

The reason I ask is that, on my Challenger, I was able to disable the multi-displacement system (MDS).

Brother, this is reassuring! I've been at my wits end with the truck! It goes in weds for a service with a regional service manager and Ill be sure to bring the REV-1 paperwork with me. I've been hesitant to get a few more accessories for the truck as I may be canning it in the near future but hopefully this is a solid long term remedy

That would be sweet....Damn thing stutters a lot.

Well it would at least be a good starting point to see if the Atkinson is causing that issue.

Edit: After talking to a Toyota tech today I would not advise attempting turning off the Atkinson cycle. The truck has too many sensors and injection ports among other things.

I also heard they are working on yet another ECM TSB update. As much as that sucks to think that they didn't get the programming done correctly out of the factory, at least they are trying to fix it.

My truck is a stock Limited and I commute 60 miles round trip daily for work. I'm only on the interstate for 5 miles each way on my commute and the rest is US highways in 55 MPH speed zones. I had original TSB update done at 5K miles a few months back and Rev 1 done last weekend. I've driven approximately 250 miles since Rev 1.

    1. After original TSB the lag from R to D went away and has not returned. I'd occasionally see flares when cold from 3rd to 4th. Gas mileage decreased and I was seeing as poor as 19 MPG on a tank of gas. Truck still felt unpowered unless I really got into it.
    2. After Rev 1, I have not had a flare and I'm being told 22-23 MPG by console but I'm still on the same tank of gas and cannot confirm until I refill tank. I've noticed more power off the line and I drive in D. More responsive when passing on highway! I've also noticed transmission does not go to 6th gear as quickly on my commute in hilly roads.
Overall I've seen a marked improvement in the performance of my truck, but this is also my first Tacoma, previously I drove a Lexus RX for 10 years. I'd recommend this update to others but please remember my truck is stock and I intend to keep it that way since I'm a commuter.

This trans is best when it's hot. When cold, it locks out over drive 5-6 until it hits warmer running temps.

Yea, but it should be so rough when shifting 1-4th gear. It is a lot better after Rev 1.

    Hi Gene ,
I am excited to hear from you on how the Rev1 is working out overall and MPG. I know it is early as you just had it done so you may not know much yet , but I think more than just me are waiting . I am leaning towards getting it done .

I agree , there must be more things they need to tweek for stubborn high or low spec transmissions that do not respond to the changes.
I wonder what is the results of a trans that did not have the symptoms are if it gets the TSB rev1 done .

I had the "300" Rev 1 done this morning.....One of the service writers that seemed to know a little said he couldn't officially say "yes" they will have another update....BUT, he believes there will be another....wink, wink.

    For what that's worth.
