I may be wrong but it dosent seem like the SR5 guys are having such tranny issues.....

My dealer here in AL told me most issues were with the TRD Sport and TRD offroad. Something about all the different driving modes the TRD offers...like crawl control etc...

My SR5 only has traction on/off and ECT mode. After the first flash it's been fantastic.

BTW....before the flash it would shift to soon and would have to press the pedal really far to downshift and go..after the flash it started holding the gears longer now....like it's waiting to make sure I'm not still merging or passing. It also holds 4th untill i crest the hills...then it will upshift... the throttle response became super crisp after Rev 1 also.

My truck held 2 qt of ATF before they flashed it. Made HUGE difference!

Isn't this transmission behind the 2.7l also? I have not seen a single complaint about that combo? Pretty much points to overgeared rear end or faulty ecu/tcu programming. Surely the 2.7l doesn't have more low end than the 3.5l!

    Is your truck a '16 or '17?

I would look for one that was built in Baja if I was going to replace it.

Got mine done at my 10,000 mile service yesterday (10,670), it's a brand new truck! It changed everything I hated about the transmission. For those first 10k I was seriously doubting keeping the taco for this reason alone.

GOOD! I was in the same boat, the thing drove like a new truck all around. I noticed a change at the 700ish mile mark post flash. Not to rain your parade, just keep an eye on it. Some folks have tons of mileage on the flash and they have been super happy. Good luck!!!

I have that gearhunting from 3rd to 4th since my 5k service. What explanation did you give to get the rev 1 update?

yeah i would also like to hear what explanation to get the rev.1

i have been trying since june of 2016 to figure out what i can do to make this truck more drivable. i understand people will say that its the nature of the truck and to just floor it more to make it move but mine seems to be getting worse. to the point it wont maintain 60 mph. i have to concentrate and pretty much watch the speedometer and constantly have it slow down to 40 mph then finally it jumps down 3 gears and whines itself out to get back up to 60 mph. this happens on flat ground sometimes too. either if there is a headwind or a slight grade in the road. Sometimes it just does it randomly. almost as if Im driving with the emergency break on.

its been to the dealer 5 times and each time they say its normal. only on one visit did the tech say it felt sluggish and was erratic. but at that time canada did not have a transmission tsb yet.

they told me in august that they did the first update but it really didn't make a difference.
I think canada got the rev1 in the middle of December but my local dealership keeps telling me that they know nothing about it. and the worst thing is that the only 2 dealers here are owned by the same company and run on the same system.

i know its not a sports car but it should be able to maintain 60mph and not constantly be at 15mpg.

iv contacted toyota but theyve told me that i have to deal with my local dealer.

not really sure what else to do.
sorry for the rant but just wondering what others are telling the dealerships in order to get the rev.1 update.

From your description, if you are not stretching it, you have major problems. Not being able to maintain 60mph, on a flat road, at or near sealevel, is major. Have the dealer diagnose it.

Wel I should be more in depth.
It will maintain 60 mph but it has to jump down to 3rd and 4th in order to maintain that speed. Going down the highway I'll get it up to 65 and you can watch the speedometer drop down to about 50 then it jumps down 2 gears.. the dead spot on the pedal is so bad that it goes down to about 40 then will start to climb back up to 60 in 4rth gear. Then will shift into 5th and sometimes 6th and once it does that you can see it slowly start to slow down again

If this is happening on a flat road, at or near sea level, something's wrong. You have the 3.5l and that shouldn't be doing what you are describing Under the above said circumstances. Have a dealer document this.

I would have them seriously look into it. I've been in that boat, the truck would not maintain 70 mph on the highway. I had constant hunting and having to mat the gas to get up and going. Very unnerving

yeah iv told the dealer this countless times. they keep saying they cant do anything.
i drive about 15 miles each way on the highway to work and iv been starting to take the back roads instead because i cant stand the constant highway driving in 4th gear.

even the slightest grade change it will jump down and scream. i had a 93 acclaim with a 3 speed that had more power than this :frusty:

What your describing isn't covered in the TSB....u have to use the key words that the TSB described.

or disconnect your battery for half hr and then go drive it aggressively and see if it dosent re learn.

Have u tried driving in S mode?

I had the TSB done a few weeks ago and the difference is quite noticeable. Thanks for all the info on this.
