I’ve read about replacing the stock early Tacoma dash dual copholder with the much more commonly available T100 one. I’ve also red various reports about whether or not it even fits.

My truck was bought used with the stock one still mostly intact. The tabs were broken, but still attached. I could pull it all the way out.
It works well with some gas-station & food places large cups, the narrow bottom 20oz tumblers, & some stuff. However, much just doesn’t work well with it- cups & bottles don’t fit or fall out.
I rarely used it at all.

I got a T100 one cheap from Amazon to see how it works in a Tacoma. For $15-ish, why not try it & see if it’s actually useable
(The 4Runner one IS NOT- too narrow to fit anywhere)

The first matter is cupholder usage-

Looking at the Caribou ashtray cupholder, I kept thinking about the hole width. I have a 90 Miata & I made a phone & cupholder for it using the side console screw to mount. I played with different things to use for the cupholder. 3” is just slightly too small to securely hold modern 30oz cups.

Yeti, Ozark Trail, Magellan, & Yukon brand 30oz cups are all slightly different in width & taper. So, they need different minimal width & depth to hold securely in cupholders.

The T-100 cupholder is slight different in shape than the Tacoma one. The T-100 is squared off, while the Tacoma is actually slanted side-to-side.
The T-100 holes are also 2 different shapes. The larger left is 3 1/8” wide, while the right one is 2.81” wide.
The Tacoma holes are 3” wide.

The result of the size difference:
Yeti larger tumblers WILL semi-securely fit into the Tacoma cupholder, both sides. While, the other 3 brands listed above will not. The main issue is the drop-down bottom part not allowing them to nest further down IF they would clear the hole enough to sit securely.
All 3 fit securely into the T-100 cupholder, left side ONLY.

The second is locking in (so not slide all the way out).
It does lock-in enough to stop itself from sliding straight out. But, it you lift the front to angle the rear tabs down, you can manually & gently slide it out without removing the whole console surround.

The 3rd & biggest issue is how it sits when closed.
As stated before, the stock Tacoma one has slanted front & back portions. The T100 one is squared.
So, the T100 one slides in straight & it’s “faceplate” sits perfectly perpendicular to to front-rear line of the truck. While, the Tacoma one angles the “faceplate” slightly toward the driver, which follows the shape of the dash.

As a result, the T100 fits flush on the right side (better with a very slight trimming of the upper right corner to clear the tighter dash structure), but the left side sticks out about 1/4 inch. It’s really only noticeable from looking down on it.

Functionally (for me) , I like the T100, but the Tacoma one fits & looks a lot better in the dash.

Pictures show what I mean. The “Buc-ee’s” cup was chosen as a pretty common 30oz cup. It’s shape is very close to the Magellan one.
Edit- picture order changed in upload. The wider face is Tacoma, while narrower one is the T100.
