Bought my 2023 Tacoma a week and a half ago. Been back to the dealership twice saying it wasn't shifting right. today they finally did what I said on day one, check the damn ATF level! Yup, 1 qt low!

If you buy a Tacoma have them check before you leave the dealership!!!!

I've never seen one low, like ever. Since 2016 people have claimed it. I suspect it wasnt checked right. We checked many during the shifting complaint era.

You may have an anomaly but its not common by any stretch.

To this date we still have incorrect temp data in the 2nd gen DIY that causes people to let too much fluid out and set the level low.

OP. Have you had it long enough to notice any torque converter slip or shudder, or was it just shifting bad? My 2023 shifts ok, not great but livable. My issue is a slipping and shudder feeling.

I could feel the torque converter engage and dis engage slightly while at highway speeds holding steady. Cruising at 50 and then mildly accelerating I could feel it studder. With history of these trucks I was pretty sure that was the problem. I brought it in last Friday and they reset the trans to relearn. It was a little better, but not right. I hooked up scanguage3 and took a ride. On the interstate The ATF was staying in the upper 190's and TC over 200. On the off ramp the ATF numbers start to drop but TC temp would raise. So I took it back with screen shots and they did a check on the ATF level. One cool thing they did was video the whole thing for me

Fun fact.... With TIS hooked up, it signaled the testing range at 93 to 115 degs.

Not 115 to 134 like a lot of people post.

So at temp he pulled the plug, nothing came out. He slowly started adding until the proper amount was draining.

If it's under warranty, just go ask them to check.

Tip... On a new truck if you look under the hood and under carriage you will see a bunch of colored slashes from paint markers. That's the items the dealership checked. If the trans check screw doesn't have a colored slash on it, they never checked it.

Before the first visit I marked the trans Fill, Drain and Check screws with a BLACK paint marker, which they don't use. To see what screws the turned :)

Also, it is a lot 'peppier' and responsive now

Ask them to video the test, they didn't have an issue, they were proud to show me that they found the issue. The footage looks like one of those police body cam videos.

The first thing I did when taking mine home was check all fluids. The rear diff was a little low, and the transmission was 1.2 QTs low. At least the temp check is easy on the ‘23 moving between gears.

My 23 was a half quart low from factory. Pan temp was 108* when I adjusted the fluid level with the standpipe plug.

Called Toyota USA to open a case for them to extend my power train warranty. Dealership posted pretty thorough notes. I'll keep everyone updated.

You are correct on the temperatures.

It’s been reported wrong for a long time.
Probably around the time the 2nd DIY posted.
