cleaning the Baitrunner

 

How often do you do that?

 

Once a year at end of season. A reel will last a long time with proper care and maintenance. I salt water fish exclusively, I rinse the reels off with fresh water after every use.

 

Cool. I dont do saltwater and never get my reels wet. Once a year might be overkill for me.

 

IMO you should still clean, oil and grease the reel periodically but you're reels certainly won't have the corrosion salt water causes. I buy only reels rated for salt water. I will send the reel out if it develops other issues, Shimano is a good company to deal with. I have 5 Shimano's, 4 are baitrunners. I do get a little anal with the reels, I remove them from the rod and also remove the crank after each use.
I would love to get a VS at some point but not in the current budget.

 

I only have one spinning reel and its a shimano (cheaper model) and I only use it for catfishing so it doesnt see much use. I exclusively use baitcasters for bass fishing. I have 2 Lews and 2 Abu Garcia. My favorite is the AG Revo. Its so smooth. The funny thing is i use it the least because it was expensive (for me) and i dont want to mess it up. I use a cheap AG Silvermax 90% of the time because i dont mind it rolling around in the bed of the truck.

 

I had to give my 7000 a good cleaning after dunking it in saltwater last winter.

 

I just did this to a 5500 I got for 15 bucks! It works perfect now. Lol

 

Any tips on bait for pond bass this time of year? Going to try tomorrow but not sure what to use.

 

I'm not much of a pond fisherman, plus you're in Texas correct. If I had advice, it probably would not help you. Hopefully someone from your locale will respond.

 

It was a bust because of the cold front that hit friday night. Ive never got blanked at that spot but i did Saturday.

Well, last summer, this lassoed, foul hooked shark burnt out the bearing in my Baitrunner which I just replaced

 

Bass Pro has a great sale going on right now. I picked up a BPS pro quailifier 2 for $49. They are normally $99. Pretty nice reel for the money. Also Berkeley fluorocarbon is 50% off.

 

Better you than me. That looks way more complicated than my old Penns.

 

Haha, yes they are. I only dismantle the main gears and drag. I won’t touch the secondary (Baitrunner) drag. If that goes, I ship the reel to Shimano.

 

Where do you fish?

 

Northeast. New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York. Majority is New Jersey. All salt water.
How about you?

 

NJ (Island Beach, Brigantine, Cape May, mostly) and OBX, Cape Hatteras.
