Anyone collect lures? These two were made by my uncle and I have no need to hang onto them as I likely won't be going back down to the Keys and if I do, I'll buy something from the bait shop by where I use to live. Some reason the treble hooks were cut on one.

Picked up a rod from a garage sale last year and Im trying to figure out some info on it.

Its a cabelas branded rod, 6f, cork handle, its a graphite rod (just clear coated), uses black thread to hold the guides on, about halfway between the reel seat and the bottom eye there is a "style patch" about 2 inches long with gold and black thread.
There are no markings anywhere on the rod except for on the butt it says "cabelas" It was paired with a older quantum reel.

The latest Cabela rods (Sea Striker) were made with Tsunami blanks. Depending on the age of your rod this could be the case.
Cabelas no longer has the Sea Striker brand since Bass Pro bought them.

The reel that came on it is a quantum sx3 from the late 90s, so I am guessing the rod is pretty old. I got 2 rods from the garage sale(both had sx3 reels), 1 of the rods snapped on the first cast, but this one is holding up just fine.

I’ve always liked Quantum reels, I have 2 myself. Take care of them and they last. I only saltwater fish so a freshwater shower is a given after every outing

I have 2 sx3 and a sl3. I like them but dont use them often. In total I have 25 rods/reels all set and ready to use, but I only ever cycle between the same 5-6 of them. Im all freshwater here, but I need to do a cleaning on all my older reels next winter.

If you're referring to the "Salt Striker" rods, I have a few of them and they've been great! I picked them up to pair with some Penn "Clash" and "Spinfisher" reels and have been using them hard in saltwater and freshwater with no issues.

Salt Striker is a good rod. I did break one but I broke it, no fault of the rod.

So I got this rod holster the other week. Holy crap do I love this thing for bank fishing. Not having to lean my rod on my shoulder, or drop it on the ground to take off a fish or fix my bait has been amazing. I dont have to worry about stepping on my rod, or it getting full of mud and sand.

Buy one, trust me, this will change your fishing experience. I got both left and right side ones as I didnt know what side I would want. I use my right side one more than the left side, but they both live in my truck now.

I mostly fish from boat...i've made some articulating rod holders that work very well. Allows me to drive the boat at the same time being able to grab my poles when i get a strike. I can just pull over and cast also while the other rod sits idle in the holder. Its fun when all hell breaks loose, and i hook-up fish on both poles at the same time while driving the boat. Then you wish you had help.

83BA277F-AB34-4844-9D15-599161A7CAE1.jpg My 1 piece custom lamiglas from Red Drum Tackle in Cape Hatteras is now a 2 piece. and not in a good way. If you look closely at the second guide you will see the issue. I tried to pull a 60# cow-nosed ray out of the surf with my braid wrapped around the guide. I’m sick.

I have never seen so many as this year. I caught 6 in about an 1.5 hrs broke the friggin rod and left. The guy at the tackle shop said it may be fixable so maybe not a total loss.

I can deal with Cownose and Bullnose rays but wait until you hook a Roughtale ray… those are enormous, and they suck to the ocean floor and can’t be moved. Those are about an 7’-8’ wing span…. UGH! I end up snapping the line deliberately.

A friend of mine told me he prefers 8 and 10 oz riverbank sinkers for Drum and Striper in the Spring run so I made him a few…
