Line is one of those things that everyone has their own opinion on. I too like mono for most of my fishing needs, braid and flouro come in for only certain situations.

    General fishing - straight mono
Pike - mono with flouro leader
River - braid with wire leader
Ocean - braid with wire leader
Musky - braid with 100lb flouro leader
Ice fishing - braid with flouro leader or straight mono - This one I am still playing with though. I 90% of my fishing is done on my ultralight 2lb mono, but a good amount of fish I have caught on my rods with braid/leaders have ended up breaking the line. Not sure if the fish were just really big, or my knots are breaking.

I only fish salt water and with the $ difference between mono leader to Fluoro leader, I’ll stick with mono. My main line is braid exclusively.

My ocean fishing is a intercoastal waterway at my parents house, so its reds, flounder, trout, snook and those stupid catfish.

I love Florida for the fishing alone!

It is great down there. But since I live in MN, my ocean fishing gear is pretty limited. I got a nice toadfish ocean rod last year and a bunch of lures, but pretty much everything we catch on live or cut bait anyways.

I fish mainly NJ and DE. The Cownose rays invade mid summer but I’ve hooked into a few Roughtail rays which I can’t land. They’re about 200-300 lbs and they suck down to the ocean floor and can’t be moved
