    Hello.. New Member here.

I apologize in advance if the questions have been posted/answered before, and sorry for the long post. I'd spend more time checking the site before posting, but am juggling too many projects and elderly relatives. Hopefully the experts here will be of some assistance.

Sorry for the long thread, but I really need some help. First Totota Tacoma I have owned. I searched the forum for answers, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I just recently obtained a 2012 taco sr5 prerunner and it does not seem to support bluetooth nor XM. Head unit seems to work fine on AM/FM/CD. General support sites seem to say that it supports them but I can't get them to work. I took the taco in to a Toyota dealer but all they wanted to do was to sell me a new truck--- no help there.

The head unit is a stock OEM radio, non-entune/NAVI. Read the man. but it didn't help too much. I believe that it may not support it but would like for it to. Man. seems to indicate that it is a model A radio. I was not able to find the installed OEM microphone in the upper console location. The AUX connector does not have a USB/AUX connector, only a AUX connector; I know that I could connect via this but do not really want to do it this way. Steering wheel does not seem to have the audio/phone controls.

When I press the AM/XM button, hoping to get to XM, only AM works. Would like to get XM working

I am generally able to do may repairs myself, but just need a pointer in the right direction or a how to guide.

Yes, I know that I could just buy a new truck with the features that i am looking for, but this truck has a significant sentimental/family value. So I would like to keep it.

    Questions:
    1. Does this unit support bluetooth or not? Again, I think that it is a A unit head.
    2. If so, how do I get the phone to connect?
    3. If not how would I go about getting it to support bluetooth?
3a. Would prefer to use an OEM setup; however, I do know that I could obtain a separate bluetooth module and install it or an AM/Bluetooth module and play through the AM band, if I had to go that route. Any other suggestions?
3b. Is it possible to just install a new OEM head unit and get it to work that way? If so what other tasks would I need to undertake in order to make it work. Who might have the best price for the unit?
    4. If I have to install the microphone, would be ok just using the phone mic, where is the best location to get this unit? Would actually prefer using an OEM mic. for daily use.
    5. Would ultimately like to have radio/phone controls on the steering. What would I need to do to make this happen? buy a taco double cab wheel and install that? This is not an immediate issue but would be looking to address this problem down the road.
    6. Does the XM radio need a separate antenna to make it work?
    7. Quick question, hopefully an easy answer, the radio when in FM mode, is not displaying song info ie: artist, etc. i would like to have that info show. The unit does have a TEXT button but it does nothing when pressed. How do I get this info/feature turned on?

Lastly, I'd like to get other misc. Toyo parts but don't want to pay dealer prices, what online OEM parts sites would you folks recommend for value, supply, and toyo parts? Did a quick google search but most of what came up is direct toyo or 3rd party non-OEM stuff.

Thank you for any help that you are able to provide.

IMHO you would be least invested in both money and frustrations if you simply updated your head unit with an affordable aftermarket HU that has both BT and XM. I also have a 2012 but it's the JBL system with those features built in. I would think that your HU would have a phone icon button to set up the BT connectivity - If equipped. Good luck
