4x4 is so last year, what you need is 6x6.

All seriousness though, buy what you can afford, if you can afford 4x4 plus the insurance and maintenance cost then go for it.

I've owned a Tacoma 4x2 Sport DCSB for the past 10 years here in Houston. I'm going with a 4x4 Sport DCSB this time because I am finding myself is situations once a month where I could use it (getting stuck in mud). For me it is a functional aspect I could use. It's what I'm deciding to get. No king of the neighborhood crap here.

As a follow up, I went for a test drive yesterday in a sport and off road on the freeway. For me, I really couldn't tell the difference in ride. But then again I was not driving in mud or in a ditch.
Sale lady told me a funny story though. She had a customer who came by to test drive an off road during some heavy rain. All the ditches around the dealership were full and she pulled right in to one as soon as she pulled out of the dealership! Needless to say the truck was submerged in water. They had to call a wrecker for the truck. She told the sales lady she wanted to test the 4X4.
