    Hey guys

I could really use some advice. I am going around in circles trying to figure out the best way to build my 2022 taco.

I live in North Carolina, Charlotte. I don't plan on doing offroading. I work in the construction trades (though rarely go offroad).

I have an order placed for a 2022 TRD OF 4x4 DCLB with tech pack and LED headlights. MSRP is 40,500'ish plus taxes & fees but I'm getting it for $38600 plus taxes and fees.

The only reason I went for this is because I want LED headlights first and foremost. Everything else started stacking after that e.g. I'm getting a TRD, might as well get the OF for the bilstein shocks, the locker, etc

But what I am realising just before my truck is about to go into production is that I don't actually want or need any of these. I just want the LED headlights and the smoother ride of the OF vs the Sport (the only two I took roadtests in).

So I am contemplating whether I should just change the order to one of the following:
*TRD OF 2WD, DBSB with LED headlights and tech pack - save $3.7k
    *SR5 4WD DBSB - save 5.5k
    *SR5 2WD DBSB - save $8k

with the money I save, I could put a predator pack on one of the SR5's and I guess some crappy aftermarket LED headlights and taillights? But do I really want to be installing some shit third party LED lights on a brand new taco?

I'm so confused and could use any advice.

    Ty

Here is my recommendation that may actually save you some money and lots of time

    - TRD Off-Road 4x4 DCSB w/ tech package (very common configuration)

The OEM LED Headlights from Toyota are not worth paying thousands of dollars for. Its marked up in price because its "toyota" branded.

AlphaRex and Morimoto sell some really good LED headlights that are are OEM style, cost less, and perform just as well or better than the stock OEM LED headlights. If you're lucky, you can find OEM LED Headlights for discounted prices.

I currently have the Morimoto XB LED Headlights and they are ridiculously bright and perform just as well as the OEM LED lights.

Here is a good comparison between Morimoto and OEM LED from crashnburn80

wait what they are $500? I'm aware they'll cost over 1k if he buys halogen then switches to OEM LED because the special wire harness. I doubt OP will be able to get a 2WD TRD Off-Road with tech and LED package because they are very rare and the resell value of 2wd TRD OR tacomas are worse than any other tacoma from what I've seen.

Get a 4x4 SR5, you won't regret having the 4wd, once you have it. Matter of fact, you may get embarrassed trying to leave a construction site, and be stuck in 2wd.

Then get the headlights you want. Taillights are a big waist of money for nothin'.

Sorry I'm not too great with this but my understanding is that unless you get the LED headlights from factory you can't install aftermarket LED headlights without a harness that supports it? I tried getting the dealership to order me an SR5 and add the OEM headlights and they quoted me $900 for the lights and $1200 for the harness plus labor. They said without the harness you can't have LED lights on the truck, only aftermarket LED bulbs

The OEM headlights are $450 add on *IF* you get the Tech Pack with them. And yes they are available on a 2WD OF. They're available on any trim/spec TRD and above.

The problem is that without ordering LED from factory, the truck (according to the dealer) has a completely incompatible wiring harness vs the SR5's. So the only way to get the OEM headlights on the truck is to order them from factory OR in this particular case, the dealer is possibly willing to install it after the truck arrives but it would be at a cost of $900 for headlights, $1200 for harness plus labor so it makes switching to an SR5 pointless as all the savings are eaten up.

or in the case of the Taco, they look like a child's toy. I can't for the life of me understand why Toyota thought it would be a good idea to put tacky chrome in there!

I think I'm going to put these ones on.

    Congrats on the 2022.

I’m in Charlotte too. I did not know they were taking orders. Those prices sound good, or may just be me. Which dealer are you using. I would get the TRD if it is really 38.5. Drive it 6 months and sell it for profit. Seems really low or I have not priced them.

I may look to trade my 2021 2wd in.

    Thanks!
I am actually ordering it from Michigan and driving it down. Toyota SouthEast are really trash to deal with and mark up everything 10%+.

Ordering from Michigan lets me spec exactly what I want and I'm getting a decent discount too especially in today's market.
