I know you are being facetious. Still I wouldn’t say Tacomas suck —although the automatic transmission certainly does.

What I’d say, though, is don’t think I have met a group of owners less willing to hear any type of criticism about their trucks, however valid it may be. Or perhaps it is just this forum. I don’t really know.

Thankfully for us, Toyota values open criticism as part of its culture. That’s how it improves its products.

They're complaining about the 'flat' seating position due to Tacos high ground clearance...its like complaining about a Ferrari's harsh ride due to its sport-tuned suspension and powerful engine.

This is a truck geared for off-road use, guys, not a city cruiser. Ground clearance is important to the people buying them.

    Yes, I get that.

Oh - and the seating position does still suck...

Better for blood circulation having your legs up higher. Toyota should market that as a design feature... and pay me for the idea.

Yeah they compare the offroad version of three trucks to the on-road version the Tacoma. WTF indeed.

I love my taco but another legitimate complaint in my opinion is that a truck marketed as “Off Road” shouldn’t come with street tires.

There are a lot of stupid nitpicks about the truck on this forum, but there are also a lot of legitimate complaints by folks who like the truck, yet understand that it could be much better.

One side gets attacked by the fan boys, the other gets attacked by the haters... meh, that’s the inter webz...

The ranger raptor is awesome, i test drove one. They have been out about a year in Asia.

The difference is they are $45k fully loaded i have no idea how much they will cost here.

The difference for me would be: “How long before I have to start shelling out cash for repairs?”

I have had 2 fords with over 500k miles.

They all break down, that is why dealers have repair shops. Just look at threads on here for problems. Most of the parts made for any vehicle are outsourced.

In Bend Oregon you can hardly drive a block without seeing a Tacoma. Its like Hawaii.

All vehicles can make it 500k miles if you keep paying to fix them.

Question is, how many repairs were made in that time on the Ford vs. a Toyota. Toyotas traditionally are better built vehicles than Fords, and generally require fewer repairs over time, especially major repairs.

Through my job, I’ve been driving/off roading every make of domestic truck and suv for the better part of 23 years - sometimes under extremely harsh, brutal conditions; so I like to think I have a pretty good grasp of how reliable most of them are.

Through the years some have been better than others but none of them have been good. As such my personally owned vehicles have almost all been Toyotas.

Your mileage may vary and I’m ok with that...

Bend is a very much a scenester town... you can't be a dude living in bend unless you meet the following criteria: must wear plaid shirt, beard, drink craft beer, drive Tacoma, have 1.5 medium size dogs, and a gf or wife with Roxy clothes and flat bill hat who does hot yoga and works at a coffee shop.

Reminds me of a recent BJs commercial I saw (you know this dude drives a Taco):

Except for the flat bill cap, and the Roxy clothes thing - I don’t even know what that is - you just described me to a T... :D

Edited: Hell, the dude in the video looks like...

Could be. I'm 6'6" so my legs are splayed out in anything smaller than a class 7 truck, so it feels normal to me. I do 10 hour drives in the Taco with no trouble.

I'd be less inclined to criticize this article if they spent less time taking artistic shots of water droplets falling off pine needles and more time explaining the differences in the marks given. Stacking up the TRD Sport vs Offroad trims of the other models in an offroad test? Why would you not just get the TRD OR? Hardly seems like an apples to apples comparison IMO, not that it makes much difference for riding around on a dirt road for the "offroad" portion of their test.

There was some pretty obvious bias once they showed the Tacoma's portion as well, 1/2 the segment was about how the reviewer is a 1st gen owner, and "is focused on not being biased" instead of actually talking about impressions of the truck. Clear conflict of interest.

Anyways, I've already written more about this than these people have so I'll stop. TLDR post the metrics and detailed scoring if you're going to rank the segment. Maybe write more about the trucks in your clickbait than what kind of drink you're sipping as well.
