The dealer will always recommend a new motor. Make sure they confirm the heads and block are bad before accepting that. I've run some cars pretty hot when I've had water pumps or pulleys go bad while on the road and I haven't warped a head yet.

In the old days I could pull a head, go to the store and get a gasket for $10 bucks, have the machine shop check/machine the "cast-iron" head for less than $100 and have it back on in two hours.
    Today it's a $10,000 job. :)

Now, you should also check the block deck too.
Aluminum is good, until it isn’t. (Isn’t as in expensive)

I was at off road park 2 years ago... we had to turn around because the trail was extreme (or bad) for some of us so I was told to back up and turn around.. So I did... then he said "Go up the hill"

I looked up and it seems like 55 degrees angle. I said to him "I go up there?" I haven't done off road before to that day. First time for me.

I made up to the top, no issues. My truck was mostly stock on that day, I mean stock engine, stock gears, stock tires, etc. Only mods I added are headlights, racks, etc...

Of course, you get my idea.
If the head is cast iron so is the block. Aluminum is light also.
You could overheat old Jeep 4.0's and the heads wouldn't care. Gone are those days.

Yes, I do understand your point.
It’s getting very expensive for the garage gearhead to do his own rebuild anymore.
It’s sad that we live in a society that it isn’t cost effective to repair any longer.
Throw it away and get a new one is the new “Rebuild”

Its not just the the engine is tilted up, you also need the drivers side to be lower then the passenger side, a compound angle, not just on and incline. That's why the problem is so rare you need to be tilted up and tilted to the side at the same time.

No, it one of those things us Tacoma guys “dream” about.
(It’s not worth it, but that’s not the point)

Last I heard, OP’s truck was still at the dealer.

For some context.. I love my little Tacoma and hope it and I can recover from this crap, but I also was the manager of the supplier Facilty that produced all brake/fuel/coolant assemblies from 2010 to 2013 in San Antonio Tx and was impressed enough with the design and engineering of the Tacoma at the time to later buy and drive one as a daily driver. That being said my goal isn’t to bash the 3.5 , 3rd gen or even Toyota there’s a solid chance I’m the “unlucky”1 in a million that this happens to but if it’s a critical component or design failure, then Toyota and folks on this forum need to know about it and fix it to prevent this in the future. No matter what we’re getting to the bottom of this it just might take a while.. we might be going on a long ride haha

I remember the only electronics in a car was the points (if you want to go that far) and condenser less the radio. It has gotten way out of control and too expensive to maintain imo these days. All of these gizmos are nice, but at the end of the day do you really need it and want to pay to maintain it years out ? However the dealer$ love it for maintenance repair$.

Even the dealer I don't think has that authority, I'd suspect they'd need to initiate the process and the main office of the company makes a decision.

When I brought my truck in last year for the frame rot (I did my first inspection/CRC in time and was a few months shy of 12 years), I told the service writer exactly where the worse of the 2 holes was that could be seen without getting underneath much less lifting the truck in the interest of safety. He did explain that Toyota has to give approval on these each and every time, "but I just saw the size of that outside hole and I'd think you are going to be covered"

This. I had a horrible experience with GM before who dicked me on 2 warranties, hindsight I should have sued them.

Yup..they're hoping maybe you forget or are late perhaps. I financed my swimming pool on a 0pct deal and was fastidious about paying it early.
