In general I agree with the above, but a couple of things to keep in mind. One is you won't find a 2.5% rate now unless it's a manufacturer subsidized rate, which are rare right now. You're probably looking at around 1% higher, and it's only going to get worse when the Fed raises their rates again at their next meeting. Also, your dealer will be more willing to give on price if you let them place your financing, which they make money on. Yea the rate probably won't be great, but you can let them place it and then refinance with your credit union a month later after the title work processes. Just make sure there is no prepayment penalty on the loan the dealership places for you. I did this when I bought my truck last year and saved a good chunk of money on the deal plus 1.5% on the interest rate when I refinance with my credit union.

My credit union bumped up a bit to 2.99% but that's still better that what I think most places are lending right now. IMCU.

Don't forget to read the fine print on that rate :)

2.99% APR available for well qualified borrowers with full relationship including savings, checking and net direct deposit into IMCU account. Repayment in as many as 60 months. Membership savings account required. Current IMCU loans exempt. Model years 2020-2022. Effective 7.1.2022 and rate subject to change. Rates may be higher based on credit score, vehicle year and loan term.

Good point, I have a pretty high credit score not b/c I'm special or anything, I just pay my bills on time using automatic payments and my full relationship is a savings account w/$5.00 in it. My particular loan was for a 2021 truck and, again, I don't do any banking with them just car loans only unless you count my savings account w/$5.00 in it as banking but I don't do direct deposit or anything like that. :)

    Update 3 or 4:
    * This week I had to get in the hook for the $3100 tear down until extended warranty approved the repair. They’re starting it some time this week and it’ll take a few days.
    * Toyota’s senior Brand Engagement Advocate rep said they won’t cover anything (repairs, rental, etc) for anything that is out of warranty even if within a few thousand miles or whatever
*they don’t get involved with defects and repairs unless the dealership wants them involved and they have a process for that so since the dealership hasn’t reached out they won’t do anything.

Toyota isn’t going to cover it and basically seems

When talking it with my Dad he said “Auto industry builds them like bic lighters designed to be throw away or disposable meant for a certain # planned cycles getting people to buy new ones. That’s what drives there car sales. All OEMs are the same, why do you think they keep dropping the warranty coverage timeframe?” Feels about right at this point.

hopefully the shop figures it out and extended warranty covers it.

    more to come haha

Also, after talking to Toyota reps today decided I’m not trading it for a new one. I’m keeping it after the repair or trading for something else. Probably going to keep it depending on how I feel when it’s all done. Maybe I’ll be able to talk the service guys into upgrading head gasket to something better than OEM lol

Update: Went by the shop last Friday to check on the tear down progress & find out if they had found anything. Service guy showed me a picture of my motor and the cracked block.. I was hoping to include a picture in this post as he said he would send me pictures of the cracked block and blown head gasket, but I haven’t got them yet. In the picture he showed me top view of the motor (2) cylinders looked normal with black soot (not sure how to spell that) and one was sorta chalky white with a big ass crack in the block on one side of the cylinder. I’ll post the pics when I get them. Called extended warranty folks MPP again today to talk repairs and ask them if I could keep the block and other parts (I’m weird like that) They said it’s up to the shop, if it’s a core they’ll want to send it in, hopefully I can talk them out of it though. The folks at MPP extended warranty been pretty cool to work with so far through this deal, we’ll see how it goes. The shop hasn’t contacted them with a cause yet though so still waiting..

Cracked block... that really sucks. Have they narrowed down the cause yet or is that still undecided?

Still undecided, but a friend of mine that works for Automotive Research Institute testing engines made a great recommendation to pull the fault log and time stamps from the ECM because that should narrow it down, but the service tech seemed a little annoyed when I brought it up and asked them if they’ve done that or could do it, so I’m leaving it to them in order to not come across as more of a “Karen” lol

I didnt even know ECMs had that ability. Probably would give some good info but I agree with not making the techs angry lol

Apparently they don’t sell new short blocks which is why the shop is recommending putting in a used motor (or just used block I’m not sure). The guy at the extended warranty place said they just look at the shop recommendation and if a new short block was available they probably wouldn’t push back. I dunno this is all new to me.
