I’m really interested in finding out what Toyota discovers. Will you be posting an update on this thread?

    Yeah
They laughed and they wouldn’t even sell me the parts I needed.

As to why: because it’s a car engine designed to be transverse mounted and they couldn’t task one intern with designing a new valve cover when they rotated it sideways and stuck it in a truck.

    Yeah
you are correct but I’ll mention…
    (1) I had a catch can and emptied it that day
    (2) there were equally modified jeeps and other [old] Toyotas with me, all street driven vehicles NOT trail rigs, who all made it up the trail unscathed, all of them who were behind me sat running off camber even longer than I had been.

The 3.5 sucks as a truck engine period.

what does the ability to sit off camber for long periods of time have to to with being a "good" truck engine?

The idea that a 4WD truck can’t 4WD for extended periods of time is what I think he may be getting at.

That’s the only thing I really don’t like about the 3.5. Hopefully this won’t be an issue for me, I do wheel my truck.

I’m confused as to how it happened in your case, you had a catch can that was emptied.

I guess trucks are more likely to go off-road then a passenger car, so truck engines need to be designed with that in mind.

Well, I guess a few unlucky folks have proven otherwise. I’m personally hoping it’s an anomaly- I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Toyota 4WD Trucks.

No man most trunks are street bound, you will find the vast majority of off roaders are suvs (jeeps and similar).

All vehicles have an angle at which the lubrication system fails, unless you have a remote sump system.

Agreed. This 3.5 seems to have a weak point there though. I could be wrong though. There were 4-5 Tacomas on TW in last few years with this issue.

    Yeah
The lubrication system did not fail, bearings were all fine. Not only did they show no wear they didn’t even show any heat discoloration. The problem we’ve all been suffering is related to a poorly designed piece of plastic bullshit they should have redesigned from the car version when they decided to use the engine in a truck.

    22R, 5VZ, 1GR: all great truck engines.
    2GR: shit truck engine

It was and oil system failure, so thats a lubrication system failure. You still haven't said why idling at odd angles, for long periods of time is needed for a truck engine.

Well you are not wrong there. I’m curious if pentastar in Jeep’s has the same issue.
