I have a 2013 extended cab 4x4 with the STX package. 5.0 V8 no regrets.

It's quiet, comfy, roomy, tons of power, far better fuel economy than the 2nd gen Tacoma. Similar to the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I trailer 8000 lbs often, no worries. Have had 2000 lbs in the bed a few times, inches from the bump stops. It's a work horse.

I now have a 1997 4Runner. That's my toy. I would love a Tundra but until Toyota gets with the times in regards to fuel economy I'll stick with the Ford.

Chrysler? Damn. That's like Walmart hiring from Kmart for key positions.

Do it. Not because of the its a better truck (will not debate this...personal preference) It's because of the we bought a truck. Its not suppose to be comfortable and quiet.

You know why supermodels are single... 'cuz someone didn't want to put up with their shit even though they are hot. I love my smokin' hot trophy wife because of her shit.

and I love my Tacoma too. (same reason)

So basically I bought a car with a Toyota badge, but it's designed by former Chrysler personnel. It all makes sense now.

Haha I can't tell if you are being funny or not.

" Not one issue after trading it" meaning you had a bunch of issues before you got rid of it? Or did you not have a problem with it before you traded?

    It's tw..I can't tell sometimes

You make a decent case for the Ford (OP). My last truck was a 2003 Dodge 2500 w/Cummins dbl cab short box. Tows everything. But in the end it is an old Dodge. All the items that were working perfect when new start to have random issues. On 2 different Dodges I had to replace hard brake lines. Once one pops you might as well replace every last one. I just got sick and tired of replacing all of those little issue parts. At best I would get everything cleaned up and a year later a whole new set of little issues would appear.

Parking. Mine had the factory tow package and with stock sized tires it sat high. Went to park in the underground parking at city hall in Toronto. They have one of those hanging bars to hit if you are too high. Stock truck no lift and I destroyed the paint on the roof. Now mine was a beat work truck so I laughed my ass off. But if it was new (ish) I would have cried. Add the width and the length and it was a massive pita to find parking. Without a backup camera good luck in parking without a spotter.

In the end your decision is up to you to make. But since I just came from a big 3 truck I can offer what made me go Tacoma:

It will tow 6500lbs which is well within my needs with room to spare.
It is smaller in length and width (AC vs Dodge dbl) which in some parking situations every inch matters.
SS exhaust in the Taco vs Dodge 5year complete replacement nessecary.
Big 3 want you to buy the truck THEY WANT TO SELL you. Incentives on new make the truck I want unaffordable yet a truck with a ton of stuff I don't want and a cab configuration I don't want cheaper due to $11,000 in incentives (discounts). You are looking used so you are in a different game but still.
I hate drop in bed liners and I have to spend for lineX on an new truck. Tacoma has the composite.

In the end I didn't need such a big truck anymore. I was buying new to avoid all the mileage related repairs. I didn't want to buy a truck that would end up down the road with all of the issues I was spending large to get out of. I could hit on other things but you get the idea.

If you NEED a fullsize truck then it is hard to beat Ford, especially now that they have all of the kinks worked out of the EcoBoost technology. But, I would only be getting a new one or something almost new. Say what you want but I have never had even the slightest issue out of my Ford trucks. But, around the time of the bailout is not the best time to get a Big 3 car or truck.

Ford is the king of fullsize and they make a good all around truck but a 2011 is just a year or two after the automotive bailout. Sure, Ford didn't take out loans but during this time the Big 3 were cutting every corner that could conceivably be cut just to stay afloat. Quality and long term reliability have just gotten better in the last couple of years. Materials have just started to get better. I wouldn't touch one around that timeframe. You will hear of folks saying good things about them around those years but with my luck I would get a dog. It doesn't sound like you have been very lucky either.

For me it's not an issue because fullsize trucks went from big to GINORMOUS and I don't need or want semthing that big. I parked beside a new Raptor the other day and that thing was so big until it was just comical. I couldn't imagine that guy following me anywhere on some of the trails around here unless he was carrying a chainsaw to cut all the limbs out of the way every two minutes. I also wasn't impressed with all the low hanging fruit to get hung up when seriously wheeling in mud.

OP- If you need a full size truck- you may want to shop new. There are great deals on trucks- just got to work the dealers.

I needed a full sized truck, so I traded in my 2016 Tacoma for a 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ. I put about 14,000 miles on the Taco in 6 months, I now have 15,000 miles on my Silverado in 6 months. Honestly the Silverado is just a better made vehicle, and I can't believe I'm saying that. The interior is nicer, the features are better, the ride is better, the gas mileage is better, obviously the payload and towing is better.. Honestly Toyota needs to up their game. The Taco has better off road chops, but for what I do 90% of the time I can live with it. The Tundra wasn't even in the running because it is so outdated it's not funny.

I thought I could make due with the 3rd gen- I tried. I just needed a full size for more cargo room and I hated the tranny upchucking in a headwind and the piss poor range on a tank of gas. And then the pesky minor BS of the hood waving in the wind- these sorts of things are just not warranted in a $35,000 mid-size truck.

Back to the Silvy- 6.2l motor, 8 spd tranny, shifts flawlessly, power OH BOY does it have power. And on our recent trip to Glacier NP- 4 occupants and loaded- 20mpg. The LTZ package has cooled and power seats, power sliding rear window, leather, nice stereo, WI-FI enabled- it's just a great package.

I was really, REALLY surprised at how much better riding the Chevy was than the Ford's I test drove. Don't get me wrong- I'm not a brand loyal guy, but man the Silverado is a nice running rig. And I got it for the same price as a Tacoma LTD. Insane...

    I have a 2014 F150 work truck with the 5.0 and a 6-speed auto and I really like it.

So when I was looking for my personal car I looked hard at F150s before I bought my Tacoma. Decided I didn't need a full size. Taco fits the bill.

Good luck OP but like others have said look for something with less miles.

I thought the same thing. I went from a '98 Dodge quad cab diesel 8' bed to the Taco. I had a 4 door long bed Taco. It was smaller than the Dodge for sure, but the Silverado is not that much larger than the Taco, and I have the access cab regular bed. Tacomas have gone to the heavy side too.

You would need to pay me a LOT more than $10k to go from a nearly new Tacoma to a 6 year old Ford with almost 100k miles just for it to make any sort of financial sense.

Also don't plan on offroading, the F-150 is a joke offroad compared to the Taco.

Just remember when this ford was brand new MSRP was over $40k, the equivalent Tacoma's MSRP (TRD Offroad 4x4) was barely over $30k, yet today average auction value for the FX4 F-150 is $18,4xx and the Tacoma's is $19,9xx. So the Tacoma barely shed $10k over the last 6 years while the ford has already lost over $20k. This depreciation trend is about to peak as the F150 is about to cross 100k miles where the value PLUMMETS. Id rather buy one with 120k miles that's had all the upcoming maintenance done and has depreciated to $15k rather than buy this one, be responsible for all the upcoming maintenance and taking the hit yourself.

$22k is definitely a good deal on this truck BOOKWISE, but just know in another couple years this truck is going to be worth HALF that plus any money you sink into it in the meantime. Knowing fords I'd expect you're going to need A/C work, ball joints, transmission servicing, and suspension work to get it aligned properly and these are just the COMMON issues, you can always get thrown a curveball with a bad tranny, power steering rack, or electrical problems as well. That can happen with Toyota's as well just a lot less likely to.

The GOOD thing about this truck, its not an ecoboost :)

I don't care what people say a twin turbo V6 work truck is a horrible idea.
