    It can likely be fixed.
Whether it’s worth it probably depends on who is doing the repair and the condition of the truck as a whole.

THis was what I was thinking of.

I'd be interested to figure out if they completely cut out the rusted part or to what extent they had to go in order get clean metal that was good enough to weld, also if they took the cab off the frame when doing this repair or not because working under neath is not good, not with this type of repair anyway.
The photo of the boxed part looks so rusted I am not sure how he was able to install safe T cap on it.
videos of Safe T cap seem to show them cutting everything out to the top but leaving the top part and then sliding the cap on but I thought you still had have good amount of good metal there otherwise what weld it to?

    Anyone know this dernuld fellow?

Curious, is this a rust belt or a coastal truck? What year?

No, but its a 07 Prerunner Southeast vehicle theres still alot rain here and when took it in to dealership for inspection they said oh its fine. Well I'd like a copy of the report but not sure who to contact exactly.
They probably just lied on report as seems dealers don't like to repair these anyway.
Additionally the dealership did not apply any CRC coating at time of inspection which from my understanding only vehicles in SALT states recieve the CRC coating. THing is if I had gotten this CRC coating it probably would not be anywhere near this bad now.

I purchased my 2010 in the fall of 2016 with about 41,000 miles on it and the frame looked pretty good. Being I live in the rust belt I did the DIY rust preventive by adding cosmoline, Fluid Film, and Woolwax to it and it still looks pretty decent. So much that when the weather gets in the upper 90s for a few days the stuff starts to drip from the frame. I also touch it up yearly.
One other thing I did was add an extension to the air conditioner drain to route it around the frame. Toyota's design allows the moisture from the air conditioner to drain right on top of the right frame rail. Not good even in an area where corrosive road chemicals aren't used or in a coastal area.

It appears there are two different pieces of metal in this area so did they remove two pieces and weld just one piece over that?

Was rust mostly on the piece of frame that is closest to the CAT ?

What type of place did this repair a welder or a off road shop or what?

@TacoBell07 Yeah they took alot more out than in that pic above. That was just when they first inspected it. The rust was exactly by the CAT on the passenger side. It was a heavy duty mechanic shop that did the repair, cost me about 500 CAD.

It's the same area the Toyota designers run the air conditioning moisture drain right onto the top of the passenger side frame.

My driver's side CAT area seems worse than the side the AC drips onto. But yea it is a terrible design to have it that way.

I found the ac line that goes through the firewall into engine bay sitting right there. I'd like to take one these engineers and have a private conversation about WTF they were thinking.

But thats not all I found since its raining today I inspected if water was getting frame wet just sitting in driveway and sure enough the inner fender is dripping water from rain right onto the top of the frame same way the ac drain line does.
So both sides have water dripping on top of the area from the inner fender, WTF its like if I constructed this god forsaken thing in a lab I don't think I could engineer it to have more water intrusion than it already does !!!!
No wonder this pig dog rusts so bad its got water leaking into it from every possible direction!!!!

Went onto Toyota site and this is only information on the frame inspection I could find. Which basically tells me nothing specific about what they found in 2018 when they did inspection. The dealer tech said at the time "its fine", yea right I doubt it was fine if its like it is now basically only 2 years later.
Anyone know if there's another place that details the inspection report somewhere?
    Just found this

My truck was inspected of March 2018 for the frame. For me i find it difficult to believe they did not find any of thre rust around the CATs since i bet it has looked this rusted since at least 2020.

No doubt the dealer will refuse to try to provide the inspection report.
Its ridiculous the dealer excuse me stealership takes no photos when doing inspections especially on frame recall like this or the leaf spring recall.
Everyone is supposed to just trust them right.
