It’s a camera setting when connecting the push button. Lengths are limited though. I tried to calibrate mine and it wasn’t in the right ballpark so I turned them off.

I believe those are embedded in the cameras firmware as I have to press a button attached to the camera wiring to change the different meter distance settings as well as other camera settings.

I also wanted to mention how well the TacoGarage took care of me. While it took a little while longer than I expected for the replacement process to complete, they really went above and beyond with adding a few extra window decals, and other small items in with my replacement controller that showed me they really do care about their customers. It’s rare to find a business anymore that puts its customers first and I honestly felt that they took care of me. Thank You

Ok, so can someone tell me why I shouldn’t just leave my camera wires where they are. I temporarily ran them through next to a hose (still not sure what that is for). After looking at all the other locations to come through the firewall, well they all seem like major pains in the butt. For some reason I feel like it’s wrong to bring them out through the same grommet as that hose, but for the life of me I can’t figure out why I’m thinking that way. It doesn’t look like it would interfere with anything, so....?

I believe that is the A/C drip outlet. Look up the thread for rust on frame A/C drip mod

if it’s done it’s done. I went through a grommet closer to the fender.

It appears you are correct. For some reason I always assumed those A/C drip hoses came off some part of the A/C system in the engine bay. It never occurred to me that they come from inside the cab. I obviously know nothing about Vehicle A/C systems. Thanks for the info.

I wouldn’t personally worry about it. Maybe test the a/c full blast and make sure you didn’t puncture anything? Or do the mod, it’s cheap and easy and some good insurance. I did mine though I bought it 4 years old and zero rust.

but the camera should be fine with that grommet. Unless you plan to ford rivers or something. I wouldn’t put the time in to redo it now. Focus on other mods.

There isn’t really anything to puncture with regards to the hose. It’s kinda strange how easily it pulls through the grommet and slid back in just as easily. You’re probably right. I’ll tidy up the wires a bit and put a wire loom on and call it a day.

Have the quality control issues with this unit been resolved? The reviews on TheTacoGarage's website don't look too promising.

Well I built my kit from the manufacturer. No offense, but I didn't want to wait. I got the Gen3 kit and have had ZERO issues on my 2020. Cracked windshield with only 1100 miles did tick me off, stupid Tractor Trailer!

The 2020 uses a different kit than 2014-2019, correct? I'm wondering if I can't piece one together myself, ideally using OEM components for maximum longevity.

You can email the vendor and what you want to do, they can help you. I actually got the camera itself from Amazon along with some of the cables and got the module from the vendor. If your Taco is Gen2, you'll need a Gen2 module. 2020 needs Gen3. You can ask the vendor they can help you!.

Is anybody having a problem with their front camera? I've got a Nakita, just put everything in this past summer & all was working great, till today. My front camera now shows only a black screen, I don't know if it's the camera or the unit itself

Backup camera still functions as normal?

I'd check the connections, starting from the camera all the way back to the head unit. If that checks out, contact Nakita and I'm sure they'll send a replacement camera... then you can just plug it in to see if that fixes it.

Yeah, backup is still working. Thanks for the advice, I'll try that this weekend, don't have time during the week to pull things apart

This is why I’m hesitant to buy one of these. I’m not eager on buying something that will fail and result in a lengthy/expensive troubleshooting process. Anyone know how to make a setup similar to this out of quality OEM parts?

I think this is a small percentage with people having issues. I've had mine for over a year and I had not one issue. It's a give & take... the only way to do this OEM is to buy a 2020 (or later) and make sure it has PVM (Panoramic View Monitor).

I understand that those with issues will usually drown out those with none. Still, I’m concerned that this wouldn’t last the life of the vehicle, making it non-viable for my needs. A shame, since the controls are ideal.

If it provides a usefulness that you deem essential then treat it as a serviceable item. The average cost of cameras are $25...

P.S even oem items don’t last the life of the vehicle... hence warranty expires after 3 years

The quality of any aftermarket camera puts the OEM tailgate camera to shame. Quality of the Germes unit is similarly excellent. If I could upgrade the tailgate camera with an aftermarket one I would. I'm actually a little surprised nobody has a kit for that yet...

OEM parts fail as well, I have never owned a vehicle that has not had a breakdown of some sort. The camera is neither difficult to troubleshoot, nor expensive to replace. If this is your standard, then you will not be able to purchase any vehicle, or almost no products that are mechanical and/or electronic in nature.
