Only if you want to be one of the cool kids. I ditched my Hondo mount in favor of this. I don't regret it. Even my wife likes it.

That's the other I was checking out. At least I can add more RAM balls to this .

I liked the Hondo. It's well built and functional, but this adds more mount points. And you get the vent back. Big thing for me is I was able to mount my tablet. I have a trail map app and now I can see it without squinting. Or running over a cliff.

    Thanks!

Haha yeah it’s a propane fire ring

I also used to have the Hondo un-holey vent ring mount. It was rock solid. I switched though - I like the DMM better because I get full functionality of my AC vent back and now I have more flexibility and can mount several items and it’s nice to have the radio and iPad running a GPS app all in eyesight/reach in addition to my phone.

I received mine in the mail today. Hopefully I will have some time tonight to install it. Looks pretty straight forward. I'm glad I picked this solution over some of the others I have seen.

I don't think I will be. It's a very well thought out design. Should be here Saturday.

Is there any way to make it sit lower?

I have an iPad 10.5, i want it to sit more like where the stock radio is at.. is that even possible? Otherwise it’ll just block my windshield.

I am not at my truck to take pic, but will add some this afternoon. As far as positioning of a large tablet it simply depends on the mounting system you use to attach to the installed one inch ball. I purchased a tablet holder off Amazon with a six inch Ram mount (included) and had a suction mount for its base. Simply discarded that base and clamped the socket onto the new dash ball mount. Bottom line is it allows some adjustability to include whether you want it directly covering your head unit, half covering/half sticking above dash line or about entire tablet above dash in a landscape orientation. And again, tablet is solidly clamped into place with no rattle and very little movement. Below is the tablet holder purchased but in use pics later.
(THOUGH YOUR TABLET IS SLIGHTLY BIGGER, HOLDERS SIMILAR TO BELOW EXIST FOR THE 10" + Ipads)

I use GAIA GPS on iOS and love it. I use it on an iPhone and iPad. I’ve even stopped using my handheld GPS, a Garmin eTrex 20, because the mobile app has such a better user interface and the GPS on my iPhone and iPad has proven reliable even after days without cell service.

I believe it’s also on Android. I have a friend who uses Backcountry Navigator on Android as well which he loves.

It's actually a Polaris app. It works fairly decently and can access a few databases.

Yes that is completely possible it just depends on the mount you choose, like @Mountain2018 said, that tab holder for example seems like it would do the trick, I’m sure there’s others. You could also add extra joints and give it even more position flexibility but that would probably be more cumbersome.
The mount is MORE than capable of holding the 10.5 tablet.
