Taco Garage - Dashtop Multi-Mount (DMM) - Securely mount ANYTHING to your dash

Just ordered one today! Can’t wait to install it and get my magnetic wireless charger off of the vent!

 

Dang... just ordered a DMM (Order 1947) ... didn’t know there was a discount code...

 

Will the existing DMM be able to “add” this new power functionality? Or do we have to buy another DMM Model?

 

He said it'll be an add-on. In the interim, a number of people (myself included) have added our own charging solutions. Mine is my build thread and the rest you can find elsewhere in this thread.

Also, you could try contacting OP and tell him about the discount. He might be able to kick you back the equivalent of what you would've saved.

I would encourage other to check his build out too. That wireless charger thing is pretty cool. I haven’t done that but I probably will soon.

I’m beyond happy with the DMM! I’m shocked at how smoothly the install went as well. From finding the drill to cleaning up the mess, the whole job took less than 90 mins. I did use a bit of loctite 243 on all screws, and some 4:1 5/8 diameter shrink tube around the base of the ram ball. Also capped the unused screw holes with 10-32 button head cap screws.

 

From the very beginning when I started making the DMM I’ve always made a point about how easy it is to install, but there might be some of you out there that don’t have the tools or don’t have the time to do it so I was thinking...

would anyone be interested in buying pre-installed DMMs?
I could do it one of two ways, you ship your Dash piece to me and I send it back with the DMM installed or I can buy one and send you a full dash trim with DMM, along with a shipping label so that you can return your old one and get that money back after I receive it.

 

It sounds like it carries more risk than reward. It would rely on the good character of people to not only return their now obsolete trim piece, but also give you one that is still quality and that you'd be comfortable with selling back to your customers. I also imagine that shipping costs would go up for the larger package size. Plus the headaches of keeping track of who has yet to send back their dash trim. Of course, I'm being extremely paranoid; the reality is you wouldn't have to deal with all of those considerations with every transaction. TW members are pretty good human beings but you'll always have bad nuggets. I don't know how many people are not buying this because they cannot install or don't feel comfortable doing it themselves but if you feel like that's a good demographic to tap into, then perhaps this is a good direction to go.

I'm no business expert. I translate liquids into semi-functioning computer code or fly an airplane. Your product stands on its own (pun intended) so regardless of how you move forward I think you'll still enjoy great success!

 

You would be better off selling an Install kit. A #10 drill bit and 4 or 5 large binder clips. They worked very well for me. And maybe a thin tappet style wrench to help get into the tight areas to tighten the hardware.

 

DMM "heavy use."

 

Would you say the DMM is more stable than the SMM? I have an SMM and it vibrates a lot. Even have the same mount which was made to reduce vibrations for bikes.
I even went down to a shorter arm and it still vibrates enough to be annoying.

 

I guess technically it should be more stable since the top plate is solid all the way across the dash trim piece. However, the underside mounting solution is still the same. Whereas there's one plate for the DSM, there's 4 individual underside plates for the DMM.

 

I can say with certainty, that the DMM in conjunction with RAM ball mounts and Hondo Perfect Squeeze, has been rock solid so far. Granted, it’s only been since 2:30 this afternoon...BUT...Driving around town and later out across a field, my phone stayed put. Might as well have been bolted directly to the dash. No vibration of any kind.

 

Same experience here with no vibrations that bother me other than with the long arm mount (with multiple pivot points). The DMM with RAM ball mounts is as solid a mounting solution as I had hoped for.

 

I have the SMM as well but I don't have any issues with it vibrating or moving around. Plus I drive a MT which I think would cause more vibrations than driving an automatic. I just went with the standard mount from @FreshMexicanTaco and I have been completely happy with the product. I rank it up there with @MESO and his custom LED map and dome lights as the top 2 mods to do to the 3rd Gen interiors.
