Its been a while since I've logged into TW, I honestly wish I could spend hours reading full 30 page threads like I used to but I just simply don't have the time any more. Tacoma World has been INSTRUMENTAL to what THE TACO GARAGE is now and I am deeply grateful for that, so once again, THANK YOU for your continued support and thank you for reading this.
Now on to the good stuff, after longer than I will admit, I finally completed the design of this rack and I am very happy to bring it to the community. It is definitely the largest piece of design that I have completed so far and when I was thinking of how to finally announce and launch the project, I thought that the people who should have access to what I think is a really cool product should be those who have supported us from the beginning and those who have made this all possible. So, here it is...

    The R2-T2

Basic concept of our rack is the same as all roof racks, but I did fix some of the annoyances from other roof racks. One of the things I hated most from other racks is not being able to elegantly carry 4x8 sheets of material or any other 48" wide items. Our rack's extrusions are a full 48" width, the sideframes add another 3/8" width. The extrusions are also flush with the top of the sideframes so when attaching things like awning brackets to the extrusions on top, you don't have to worry about things not sitting flush.
The serrated openings in the sideframes are wide enough to accommodate most commonly available and used tie down straps, the hooks will fit through them and the teeth lock the straps into position.
The carrying capacity of our rack also benefits from the improved material properties of 6061 aluminum. Unlike some of the other racks in the market which use soft (cheaper) 5052 aluminum, we make our sideframes from 6061 aluminum which makes our sideframes and therefore the entire rack, stronger.
Straight line, aerodynamic fairing. Our fairing sits more forward than most racks without being any louder, In fact our testing showed improvement over the most sold Tacoma roof racks in the market. The extra room up front means that light bars, light pods and even lighting systems such as the Baja Designs XL Linkables are all able to be installed below the top of the rack (as seen in the las picture) This both maximizes the utility of the rack when loaded and keeps the aerodynamic nature of the rack when the rack is empty. (it also looks better)
The sideframes also have a section that breaks off to give room to an S2 light that can be used both as a ditch light and/or camp light, its also cheaper to buy a set of S2s than it is to buy a set of 4 rock lights. S2s are also brighter, but are dimmable so they can be dimmed if you don't want that much light.
We will also be making the outer part of our sideframes, the serrated part, in bronze and gray to add a level of customization. The inner, larger portion will always be black. (the white one in the pictures was a custom one)
The fairing will be available in a couple of configurations, at this time though we only have the standard fairing and 40" light bar fairing. The Xl linkable small side fairing will be available by the end of february. All non-standard fairings will also be available for purchase separately in case anyone want to upgrade later and when bought with the rack will be at no additional cost.

As usual we will be offering a TW only intro price.
The standard pricing of the rack will be $749 shipped to the Lower 48.
For this Initial batch I have 20 units ready to go, they just need to be boxed up. All racks will ship within a week of the order being placed, and this sale will continue until all 20 units are sold.
I am going to offer TW members 10% OFF, but this forum is public so I will DM personalized codes to anyone who asks for them, To get a code, simply reply to the thread asking for it. You will be added to the list and I will send you a code.
If we can get all 20 Units sold everyone will receive an additional 10% refund for a total of 20% OFF and a final price of $599.

    Purchase List, Thank you!:

Looking forward to the pics. Can’t bring myself to spend the 1200 plus for the other racks that look like a toddler did the planning and layout. Any chance any of the first 20 have the bronze? Would look killer with MGM and tan soft topper.

I really like the tweaks! I have another rack, and ended up modifying it to hold diode dynamics SSC2’s because I wanted lights for more than what rock lights would do. I also have plans for doing the fairing where the lights will sit below the cross bar height. Mine is already wide enough for 48” material, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it, but addressing that is very good thinking on your part as well. And lastly, the price even before a discount seems like a really great price if the quality is comparable (I’m sure it is). If these do get down to $599, that seems like a steal. GLWS

Curious if any of the boxed up ones have the bronze as well? If so, I may give it a try

None of the ones I have on hand have the bronze but if that's what you want that's what you can get, it would just take me another 2 weeks to get the bronze. Part of the purpose of this is for me to be able to gauge how much interest there would be in each color so let me know please.

I wanted to make a rack that would be more affordable than everyone else's but in the process I found I'm not really comfortable with making sub par products so instead I made one that improves in as many areas as possible while still selling for a competitive price.

That’s a great looking rack! It would be nice to easily carry 4x8 sheets of things.

I wonder if I can find the funds to get in on this!

hey @Backdoc heres something else for you

 remember...im keeping mine stock. So anyway...after the rear locker, TRD skid plate, ARB recovery point, Cooper STMaxx's, Bilstein 6112/5160's, I think I will focus on Sema wheels and 285's before I get a rack.

Wanted to chime in that this looks very nice and the price point is great. I just did Yakima tracks and crossbars on my shell and spent close to that on just my little wimpy bars that hold max 150 lbs :) Well done.

I'm excited to see you get into this market. I've got one of your Dash mount and it's a well-built product. I've been very pleased with it.

I'm looking to do a roof rack for both the cab and camper shell and I want them to match. What's the time frame for getting the rack for a shell completed?

Side frame design is complete, the mounting brackets are the only thing left, they’re not complicated except I’m trying to make them strong but adjustable so that they can be leveled with the cab rack no matter what shell you have… and THAT, isn’t as easy.
What shell do you have? Just curious
