I drive a 1988 ford f250 7.3l diesel as a beater here in Kodiak. Truck is 30yo and the plastics don't scratch like the taco for sure. I can run my finger nails across the dash on the 88 and it won't show. Try doing that in a modern vehicle..

    For sure!

That’s because after 30 years in Alaska, the hard plastics on that old 88 Ford have fossilized!

Either that, or they’re just constantly frozen solid up there! ;-)

Brrr, it’s been a long, cold winter.

Propane or something cooler? I had a similar idea but haven’t had the guts to take a torch to my truck’s interior.

I did the heat gun trick the other day actually on my door scratches and my other car (Scion). They all look improved but not perfect on the bigger ones. The heat gun also can leave it looking shiny in some places. In my opinion though, the shiny looks better than scratches, almost as if someone rubbed against the door with a greasy leg. Trick also is to not leave the heat there for too long.

Propane, do not use a cool flame that is yellow as it can blacken the plastic due to soot.

I wonder though. Someone was selling those paint protection film cut outs for the door handles. I have the same type of thing around my head lights, fenders, panels etc.

Would it be possible to use this or something similar for the door and dash panels?

My work pants have scraped it. It's soft but I just don't worry about it. Plastic parts are easily replaceable if it bothers me.
