Well quick update. It's been awhile I do apologize. During leak down testing of the cylinders a strange occurrence has come along. The Crank shaft is locking up. Stops, I go 360 in reverse and stops? So I tore it down pulled the timing cover and chains to see if it was the heads I just had machined but nope. Put it in neutral think maybe the tranny was doin it but that didn't work. Getting frustrated. Bout ready to pull the motor and go through the whole thing and while I'm at giving it nice rebuild with some Darton sleeves and OEM internals. I do appreciate the feedback I got from all you and thank you.

I just have one question, you said you drained the oil and there was no metal shavings, so how could a rod bearing(s) be so bad that it sounds like the motor is going to come apart but you didn’t have an metal shaving in the oil?

I even put a magnet next to the oil while it was draining and nothing.

Transmission has never been pulled from the motor, you really think all of a sudden a bolt backed out? I mean that sounds like a great idea and I am going to definitely look into it. Just never would have thought a OEM bolt would decide to back out after all these years but I'm not mechanic! Thanks for the feedback!

Do you still have the oil filter to cut open? That’s a lot less work than pulling the oil pan off!

Well sorry it's taken so long but life has a way of screwing shit up sometimes! Update!! Rolled me a crank bearing! From what I've read it's nearly impossible to do. I mean I never missed an oil change, even changed it every 5k instead of 10k running royal purple in her... I never let maintenance go. Always the best for this little taquito. Anyone else experience this? And does anyone know where I can get a quality short block or should I just be buying from Toyota? Already found a junkyard motor for 2800 but have no idea how it's been treated. Would rather put my newly machined heads on a new or quality rebuilt short block. I'd rebuild the one that's in it but I kinda want it as a back up because I don't plan on being any easier on the new motor than I was on the old. Call me crazy but it's the only to drive these nachos! Like you stole it!

Can you elaborate a bit on "..hauling a bunch of weight and not letting up.."?

What's "a bunch of weight" in lbs, approximately?
What's your idea of "not letting up"? What kind of rpms & gear selection, on what kind of slopes and distances up hill?

A brand new short block from Toyota is about $3k. Choosing between an unknown junkyard engine and the brand new short block was the same choice i was faced with.

I ended up with the new short block. Having a fresh set of heads makes the decision even easier IMO.
