Is anyone else disappointed that Toyota did not completely redesign the 3rd Gen from the ground up like GM, Honda, Ford. They did change out the drive line, but most don't consider it an improvement. The Taco is the only truck still using drum brakes!

Most people can't even tell the difference between a 2nd Gen & 3rd Gen unless they know what to look for.

Seems like they didn't put a whole lot of thought into it just slapped on some new sheet metal and called it a day?

What exactly did you want them to change that they didn't? They upgraded the rear axle, the interior is totally new, the sheet metal is all new, the entire drive train is new. They even made changes to the frame. They pretty much touched every part of the truck.

If one can't tell the difference between a third and second gen they need to get their eyes checked, because even Stevie Wonder can tell the difference.

I would agree that it's time to ditch the rear drum brake nonsense.

Follow my example. It's simple really. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Life has too many important and fun issues to waste time fretting over what trucks look like or what 'redesign' even means.

But in the spirit of the season, I'll see if I can find some appropriate cheese to accompany your whine.

Here ya go, a sampler platter.

He must be talking about himself not knowing the difference between 2nd gen vs 3rd gen. Since they are so similar what components are actually the same?

Your idea of the Tacoma is all unrealistic expectations of Social Image. Sit back and think of the Tacoma and Toyota heritage... its a reliable off road truck...

GMC: Have you seen the suspension components? Very poorly laid out and weak in an engineering standpoint. Weak interior. Weak body design. Only plus is the diesel but you are paying a $6k premium.

Honda: Do you want minivan/truck hybrid? By definition it is a truck but would you personally use it like all the other trucks?

Ford: They don't have a truck to compare beside the soon to be ranger and you can't make judgements on vehicles over seas because they all change with EPA requirements in the USA.

I'm glad they didn't. I would have paid a lot more for that trim! I'd like the Marty McFly edition

Seriously though, the second gen was a pretty solid truck. I wouldn't be upset if they just updated it.

With that said, look at all the issues the other trucks are having. I dont want to open a can of worms, but from what I understand every truck except the Frontier is having issues.

OP, you can’t be serious with your “completely redesign” comments?!
(I’ll give you credit though, for the rear drum brake comment).
I purposely waited for the 2016 Tacoma to come out, before upgrading from my 2005 Tacoma... I had to order my 16 TRD Sport, and I couldn’t have been happier. My 16 is light years ahead of my 05, and I felt everything was/is redesigned.

How about that Ridgeline though.....you do prefer it to a Tacoma, correct?

I wish they did put disk brakes in the Tacomas, so people like this would stop complaining about 3rd gen trucks. Oh wait, they would just find something else to complain about. They will never be happy.

Agreed, but the drum brakes stop every bit as good as the disc brakes I've had on other trucks. If they work, what's the problem?
