Auto and I use it all the time except when my truck sits in the garage for weeks. I see people park and bounce off the parking pawl all the time and it hurts my soul.

We have wheel chocks in my garage so we always stop at the right spot. I even got the wife to put her car in N and let it roll back off the chock before putting in P.

I think you have it backwards; by not using it in the winter here in the North East, you run the risk of having it become inop, using it, even when there is lots of snow, ice, and salt, is what keeps the system fully operational.

My Ford F-150 work truck had a recall issued a while back for the parking pawl subject to failure and F150s were apparently rolling away when parked. The memo from Ford said to always use the emergency brake, henceforth, regardless of the status of the recall repair.

I would say to use it as it’s a good backup plan and keeps the system operable.

I use mine consistently, unless I just went through water and know the drums might flash rust and seize.

For any AT, this ^^^^^^, to keep the pressure off the pawl especially on an incline/decline.
