Here is a short break down of how the internal bypass shock works that fox makes. Also, some info directly from TRD explaining the pro fox internal bypass. I personally went from the factory spring rate on the Tacoma trd pro fox shocks which is around 650 lbs, to a 700 lbs spring and I didn’t notice a height change at all and the ride seemed very close to what it was with the factory springs maybe just a little more firm. So unless you put a longer spring in there Idk how else it would work. It already has a 12 1/4 inch or so long barrel spring and I’m sure the block height is very close to the compressed length of the shock between the spring seats. So I assume they would have to make a spring with less coils per inch, longer, and maybe a heavier rate to work which I’m sure they can because they are eibach. Also, since our shocks are all working off a roughly 2:1 motion ratio, lifting it won’t effect it as much as something solid axle like the rear of the truck. Either way if you get the shock out of its bypass zone and into the rebound zone while at the new ride height, the shocks aren’t working like they are intended to driving around on the road. Just for shits and giggles let’s say you got 1/2” lift with a heavier spring and that put you back to the factory height with the steel bumper you just added would you still technically need to tune the shocks,? I think so, but for the daily driving pro owners that mall crawl I don’t think it will matter enough to them so eibach is going to want to target those guys first, the guys that don’t know the difference between and (Apple or a Pear). Or do it right, pull the shocks apart, change the location of bleed ports In the shock, make a valving change because now the rebound and compression rates have changed due to the heavier spring rate, heavier bumper, tires and winch maybe? Tires change the unsprung weight, bumper and winch change the sprung weight. But then why do all that work to a factory shock that isn’t height adjustable? Idk just thinking out loud.

This is me 100% and I'm okay with that. I'm one of those window-lickers that bought a Pro for street use only and just want a little more lift for looks. Nothing wrong with that. I do know how shocks work and I'm fully aware that lifting a Pro truck will put the shocks out of their intended operating range. I'm willing to experiment and see what a small lift does to daily driving characteristics.

And yes I do go offroad. I'm just not foolish enough to think the 3rd gen Tacoma is the right platform for the type of trails I enjoy. I'm in it for more than just fire roads and for that I need a rig that's actually capable.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Love the 80, one of my fav yotas I have owned. I enjoyed building and wheeling all of the LCs, bought this guy out of TN for 5800. I love this 40, just not as practical as my 80 was, but I love it.

I have seen you on ih8mud, that’s a sweet rig.

    Fellas,

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.

    Few things:

    - The big tobacco corporate marketer has been a Toyota enthusiast for 20 years. I’m on my 7th Toyota truck.

    - We make the OE PRO springs for TRD. We had the program with Bilstein too.

    - They may not work. This is a possibility with every vehicle we make product for. We’re not trying to make your rig worse. If that’s the case the parts wouldn’t be brought to market.

    - The point of this post was to see if there was interest. I believe there is so we’ve scheduled a Tacoma PRO in for a quick R&D session. I’ll report back in early January.

I’m headed to the mountains to get my 4Runner dirty....

    Ryan

nice rig, looks like near the start of the rubicon trail. I too like to climb big rocks. Some of mine from fordyce, wrecking ball and sun bonnet pass in Johnson valley.

These springs, they aren’t a barrel spring like the pro coils are so they get a little close to touching the body of the shock when fully compressed, so they are very very close to the same length, and flat top grind as the pro coils and close to the same ID and OD.

And for the record, I’m not making fun of, or hating on anybody with a pro that doesn’t beat the hell out of it, it’s your truck and if you want it to always look pretty I have no problem with that. Every little chip and light scratch I get on my truck I’m quick to buff it out or cover it up. I park far as possible from people in parking lots, all of that. Just trying to share some info on the shocks and maybe talk a little crap haha,That’s it.

Shouldn't that front axle be articulating more? Seems like, even with a wheel in the air, it really doesn't want to droop a side. You running an aggressive sway bar up front?

You would think, it has something to do with how the front links and air shocks work with the rear leafs and anti wrap bar, with my coilovers on the front it doesn’t seem to do it nearly as bad because the shocks don’t unload like that. That rock Huge tho, this is my brothers rig on 40 inch sticky’s, he made it over. I broke my rear anti wrap bar on this which took out both my rear shocks at the same time and I had to limp back. But regardless when the front was on leafs, linked and with air shocks or coilovers I always lift a tire trying to follow my bro.

The Pro has a 1" lift in the front, from the factory. Did you mean that instead of the 1" lower in the front?

i think he is saying his front end, albeit 1” higher from factory, is 1” lower than his rear end. He would like 1 more inch to level out. So 2” net over non pro
