New to the forums myself, it's great to know that the 3rd gens are built so well to handle an impact like that.

Also, glad to see you're all right as well as the others around you.

People can talk about how modern vehicles seem "disposable" and even minor impacts do a great deal of damage to them all they want.

But it's physics. In order to survive a high impact collision you have to adsorb and dissipate as much energy as possible. In effect your slowing down the "crash". But the human body can't be the one absorbing much of that energy as we are quite fragile.

All the mangled metal and plastic, along with energy absorbing zones and air bags help to move, dissipate and absorb all that kintec energy around the driver/passengers massively reducing the forces that would've been placed on them just a couple of decades ago.

    Disposable? Nope...engineering.

What exactly happens in this scenario? It initiates emergency breaking..will it come to a full stop before a collision?

    Glad you are ok.

Glad no one else was hurt.

Taking responsibility for the accident on a public forum is a rare thing to do, imo.

Good luck with the new vehicle.

I was under the impression that automatic braking only works at low speeds, not sure if it would have helped the OP rear ending a Semi at 70.

    He’s got a point though.
Would you be saying that if your family was in a minivan next to the semi and got slammed into and injured?

Glad no one got hurt. Trucks can be replaced, people can’t

I don't think so, it was pretty funny watching my GF figure out what the heck was going on when her truck would slow down on its own on the interstate the day she bought her 2018

That may be for adaptive cruise control but I think the automatic braking is low speed only as you don't want it to make a mistake on the interstate and cause a massive chain reaction accident.
