Yeah it is, but when you lose someone very close to you because of this same situation it leaves you a bit angry. The person driving that day also made it out just fine, my mother did not.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I don't wish that on my worse enemy. Luckily no one was hurt in OPs crash. I know if I was involved in a crash that killed another human being, my fault or not, it would devastate my to my core. It's hard to live with something thing like that

I had the system scare the crap out of me the day after I bought my 2018. There is one small section of road that I have to drive through that is a small and very narrow bridge in a slight dip with large reflective signs on either side as you approach. I was driving about 30mph up to it, and I guess the radar was reflecting either off of the signs or the actual road surface due to the dip, or it just wasn't working right but I got the BRAKE warning, rapid decel, and beeping with no other traffic in front of me. Hasn't done it since on the exact same spot.

Very cool that you were able to walk away virtually unscathed. That Diamond Back bed cover tho! Came through like a champ!

I didn’t read all pages. Glad your ok and no one else was hurt. The 18 has a beep if it thinks you should be breaking. If your in cruise and doing say 55. Something in front you you is doing 50 it’ll lower your speed accordingly. If they speed up you’ll go back to your max.

Vary glad you and everyone around you are safe and wasn't injured. All to often these things end up shattering lives. Most of us have made bad decisions while driving, whether we want to admit it or not. It might be passing when you shouldn't or continuing to drive when you shouldn't, hopefully when it happens we can learn from it (reading your edit it sounds like you did).

Almost twenty years ago when I was dating my now wife I had stayed way to late at her house. Some where around 1 am, after getting up at 4:30 the morning the day before to go to work and then school, I headed home. The drive was about 45 min and I thought no problem, I'll be home asleep in bed by 2. 30ish minutes into the drive I was stopped at a red light, I suddenly snapped my head and realized I didn't remember the last 25 minutes of the drive. The last thing I remember was taking the on ramp onto the freeway. I don't remember the 15 minutes going 60 down the freeway, taking the off ramp, the turns I had to make, or the 6 stoplights that got me to where I was. It scared the hell out of me and I ended up pulling into some stores parking lot and sleeping for a few hours before continuing on my way home. Ever since then I have made sure that if I was tired to either crash out where I was or pull over at a rest stop or large parking lot if I'm in the middle of a long drive. By the way, to answer the obvious question, I didn't stay at my now wife's house because at the time she had a really small day bed for her bed and a vary uncomfortable couch to sleep on.

It takes a lot of balls to admit you were in that bad of a wreak because you fell asleep at the wheel. Maybe, just maybe someone who reads this will think back on it some day when they shouldn't be driving and pull over, or better yet not start the trip until they are safe to do so.

I wonder what TSS would have done for me. This was a few years ago in my Gen 2. Hit a horse about 4a.m. Going into work. Was doing about 45 at impact down from the 55 I was doing when I saw it. Walked away without a mark on me, but like someone else said wait a couple of days your body will let you know. Should have gone to hospital and got checked out.

    Glad your ok.3A32EB96-E48A-4082-920E-87867E2D2C6D.jpgA0CAD1F9-7C3B-48CE-8459-E295F3D5A71C.jpg

Glad you are ok and no one else got hurt either OP. I won’t lecture or chastise you as others may have done since you have admitted your fault and thanked God for his mercies.

I too am grateful to the Almighty because that could have been me some years back when over work, little sleep and a long drive caused me to doze off for just a fraction of a second in the middle of a bridge but woke just in time to save me.

    Be safe
    Cheers!

Driving tired has been proven similar to driving drunk.

Would you say the same thing to one of your Marines that got drunk and wrecked? Or would you fuck him up with some NJP?

sorry you trying to tie this to the military......as far as I know, falling asleep is not a crime....stupid, maybe,,,,and certainly can cause horrible outcomes......driving drunk is a criminal offense and punishable in both civilian court as well as military court.....don't know where you got your proven similarity from, but would really like to see the data.....and to answer you question, as a Colonel, I would indeed request an investigation and if it was determined my Marine was drunk, he would be punished according to the UCMJ and any civil court if found guilty....

There are some states where driving while fatigued will result in a citation.

New Jersey, for example, deems it as a reckless driving misdemeanor, same as a DUI.

Mistakes happen, learn from them and move on. Glad you were not hurt and the Tacoma did what it’s designed to do.

    I feel your pain bud.

I work long hours as well, but if I’m feeling tired, the seat goes back, I set a 20 min alarm and take a power nap. I do this often.
