first of all my tick was border line knock. And far too loud to ignore. would only go away when decelerating. I also read somewhere sometimes it can be caused by carbon build up. knowing this truck came from an old guy that babied it, I thought i'd clean it up and take it for a hard run. well, the poor girl didnt like that much and but she led me to the noise. the ticking turned to a knocking and I quickly pulled over to idle down and it started squeeling then seized up and stalled. (spun a rod or crank bearing I'm guessing. haven't confirmed yet). the next morning it started but with random squealing. which gives me hope the crank my not be in bad shape. bearing on order and I'll be pulling the oil pan maybe tonight. although I said that the last two nights. I'll update when I can.

Oh yea and i added a bottle of that lucas oil stabilizer prior to the test run. wanted to see if it would quiet down a little. was thinking it was noisy lifters or something.
If it did infact spin a bearing why did it get sloppy in the first place. I don;t understand what could go wrong with the oil pump. and I'm not looking forward to pulling the front of the engine just to look at it. I'm hoping to throw a rod bearing in it and check oil pressure after. I just need to get it running so it can be shipped from Iqaluit Nunavut to Trenton Ontario. Where I'm sure I can find lots of engine at auto recyclers.

Yeah these trucks sound terrible. I took it up with the local dealer. I had the chance to see an engine taken apart. The main technician there showed me where the tick was coming from and how it was passing through the Al block. He said it is normal of the engine. I also had him do a ride along with me. He said the noise is nothing that he has not already heard.

As we were waiting at the carport a Toyota Corolla came in with the same ticking engine noise.

No matter the gas or oil the tick won't go away. Some say it is a pre detonation (pinging/knocking).
