The funny part is specs list Tacoma rear leg room as slightly bigger than 4Runner. Must be because of how it's measured.

Fake news from toyota..4runner has way more room. You cant even fit a baby in the back unless you are a midget. no issues in the 4runner.

My Dad has a 4Runner TRD Pro.

Its a really nice vehicle. I agree its tuned and drives much nicer than the 2nd Gen Tacoma.

If you don’t need a truck it’s a far superior vehicle.

I’m dissapointed the Tacoma isn’t tuned as well as the 4Runner despite the fact the drivetrain is exactly the same.

For what it's worth, the 4Runner has ALWAYS been marketed as the more foofoo vehicle, while Toyota pick-ups have been more utilitarian. This has been true for the last three generations of both trucks. 4Runners are designed and marketed for upscale( but not quite LC grade) families/succor moms. Tacos are marketed for playing and utility. It shouldn't be a shock that if ypu want a luxury truck, the Taco isn't for you.

The rear seats slide so I'm guessing they spec'd it all the way forward to give more cargo space.

I was going to buy one for the wife and tested it myself.

The drivetrain is a little different from your 2nd gen, dual vvti and single driveshaft vs your two piece driveshaft. But obviously different from the 3rd gen drivetrain.

We have both, the wife drives a 2018 T4R TRD off road premuim, and I've got an '18 Tacoma TRD OR. The 4Runner feels much bigger inside and rear seat/ legroom is much bigger in the Runner. Also fit and finish feels a little more premium. We have a 15 month old and both vehicles have a rear facing baby seat and I can fit in my passenger seat, but is tight.. 4Runner seat can be pushed back further so I fit better.. I am tall, about 6'2" BTW. The cargo room is huge in the 4R also.. We came from a Jeep Cherokee and that thing was pretty tight also.. Also happened to be the worst vehicle I've ever owned.. Never again will I buy another Fiat owned Jeep vehicle..

^THIS^ My wife drives a 2018 4runner TRD OR Premium w/KDSS and I have a 2019 Tacoma DCLB TRD OR.....although this is a great combination that serves us well so far, the 4runner's fit, finish, drivability, and comfort are a bit superior to the Tacoma. It's quieter, tighter, handles better (road manners), and is just overall a higher quality feeling vehicle. If the 3rd gens would have gotten the 4.0 VVTi and the accompanying drivetrain of the 4runner, and the power seats and overall finish quality, the Tacoma would be at a level to take on anything any manufacturer could throw at it in the mid size truck class and compare favorably. As is, they are both solid vehicles, albeit slightly different levels of quality for different positioning in the market and to fill different roles.

    Not too much
I traded a 2003 4Runner for a 2014 4Runner Premium, and then traded the 2014 for a 2017 Tacoma OR Prem & Tech. All have been/ are awesome. Just depend on if you need a bed or not.

    Now its Bourbon time.

I was really torn a couple months ago when I got my Tacoma. I really, really like the 4 Runner but ultimately decided on the Taco for a few reasons. 1 I liked the idea of owning a pickup again even though I dont use the bed for a ton of stuff. 2 the financials were a bit better on the Taco. 3 the wife is gonna get a 4 runner in the next year or so and I really did not want to have matching rides. We both loved the MGM on the 4 runner. Happy with my decision but every time i see a 4 runner that has the pro wheels and nice tires i kinda dream about what if a little. I am sure it would be the same had I purchased the T4R

The specs are wrong. The second row of the 4Runner is more comfortable for passengers.

Borrowed a ‘18 4Runner for a week. Maybe I’m bias... but I prefer the interior and ride quality of my ‘17 Pro Tacoma.

Which best suits you needs? Hard for us to know.
If you need a pickup then Tacoma, if a SUV is more functional for you then that's your answer.

Sr5 premium. Nice SUV. Wasn’t a fan of the center console.
