    I’d welcome the 8-sp. I think it’d be a great match for the 3.5L.

I’ve had multiple of both. They’re both great. But I like the Tacoma’s better, overall. I like having a bed, slightly less fluff, and it’s a TRUCK! Men are supposed to drive trucks. That’s just the way it is.

    :D

I have a 3rd gen Tacoma an a 5th gen 4Runner. The 4runner is smoother and gets about the same mpg’s. The 4Runner is our family vehicle because it has the space for the baby and all her stuff. Truck is mine and the dog. The interior of the 4Runner could use an update. I had a 2011 and my 2019 looks almost exactly the same except the gauge cluster. Having at the windows down and cruising in the 4Runner is great. I would have a 4Runner also if I didn’t surf and kayak and all that jazz.

Also the 4Runner has the one piece driveshaft so no issues of drive-line vibrations like the Tacomas even after it is lifted. It rides better thanks to the 4-link rear suspension and coil springs where the Tacoma uses leafs.

It's more like a Orange to Grapefruit comparison. Kinda similar in lots of ways but the overall factor is the flat bed you get from a truck. And the main reason why I'm looking to switch my X5 to a truck. Over the years, I discovered a passion I never thought I'd pursue..fishin!! And I got my 12 yr son hooked too. We've been using the X5 but having a truck would be preferable where we can just throw the poles, gear in the bed and take off ...then water it down when back. One time, we were using raw bait which accidentally spilled in the trunk and my trunk smelled like a freaking fish tank for weeks!!

You are comparing apples to oranges. Comparing a pro Tacoma to a pro 4runner would be a little closer.

The SR5 Premium has some strange interior color choices. The Offroad Premium is much nicer.

The standard 4Runner suspension is too soft. I have Toytec under mine now and it makes a big difference.

I may be getting some traction in talking my wife into trading our 2016 Highlander in on this... I would love to have a matching set... LOL but she would want a Cav Blue instead.

Not a bad compromise if that’s all that is required to get her to sign off.

Tacoma and T4R would be great combo!!!

That's not all lol honestly she will probably have the Highlander till the wheels fall off... When we got that, she kept her 2010 Corolla and made me give up my 2015 Taco (she didn't really make me, it was a 2wd 4banger so...) for the Highlander. The Corolla will be a great car for our teenager though, 16 in December... The wife is not as prone to buy new cars as me... I guess one of us has to be the grown up.

    NOT IT....

Yup, you’re probably right. That’s exactly why I got an ‘18 T4R last week.

When I was in the market I thought of going to the 4Runner. I hunt, change my mind when I thought of putting deer in back.

True. Not a completely fair comparison. However, a lot of feedback here are from lower trim Tacomas who later upgraded to higher trim 4runners. Seems to be the progression. They're really nice SUVs. I'd take one in a heartbeat and so should OP. I don't think it's the better vehicle all around though. Different purposes.

Maybe I'm just butthurt. I kinda like my Tacoma. :pout:

Someone posted about about needing a bed vs not needing a bed, which is spot on advice. But I use to use the bed of my 2nd gen (TRD Sport) almost every weekend and after getting a 5th gen 4Runner (lowest model SR5) I don’t really miss it as much as I though. Even though there has been a small hand full of times I complained about having to use my trailer. The 4Runner is better for city driving, smoother suspension on rougher roads, the SR5 has many more features than my upgraded Tacoma Sport, and I get SLIGHTLY better gas mileage with it. I loved the Tacoma but honestly the 4Runner is a small step above the 2nd gen Tacoma and I have zero regrets.

I go through this debate mentally about every 2-3 months. Honestly untill I can afford a new TRD Pro runner, Im glad I still have the Tacoma. Those long sandy surf days with a wet dog and all my grill equipment really make the truck seem like the right choice.

My wife has a Pathfinder, once she graduates Nurse Practitioner school she will be getting a 4. I will have the Tacoma. best of both worlds...
