Those roof racks are just plain ugly:bananadead:

Love the 4Runner though. I’ve been thinking of trading in my taco for one but a refresh may be in store for the 2020 so one more year to hold up!

We bought my wife a 2016 4runner limited new. Love it so much! But I still always seem to need a truck, so I finally was able to make another new vehicle happen and got a 2018 TRD Off-road.

The 4runner has way more room in the second row. My Australian Shepherd comfortably fits on the floor in it but barely can squeeze down there in the Tacoma. Front seats are roomier in the 4runner, and you have more headroom. It is quieter and the fit and finish just feels higher. The Tacoma just feels more primitive (some people would say that is a con, but I don't mind). It is our family fun vehicle! The Tacoma feels much more sluggish unless you really put your foot into it, although neither vehicle will win a 0-60 award. Haven't had the Taco long enough for a fair gas mileage comparison, but with the 6 speed MT I feel like I can drive it a little more efficient, but the 3.5 seems to like to be revved which kills the mpg's. One gripe I have on the T4R is lack of storage compartments inside the vehicle compared to all the "crossovers" on the market but that is partly due to the body on frame construction I'm sure. I love the storage compartments in the bed and back of the double cab Taco.

I expected them to be nearly identical until I actually got in a Tacoma the first time. I hadn't done much reading on the forums at that point. Overall both are a pleasure to drive on and off road in their own ways. If you are in the market for an SUV I don't know why you'd get anything but a T4R. If you need to haul stuff but don't need a full size, I don't know why you'd get anything but a Tacoma.

Looks like a recycled FJ rack, and probably just as worthless.

Everyone could use a truck bed they just don’t know it. When they need it they rent a pickup or bum off the “truck friend”.

Lots of love for the 4r it seems. I think I'll go check it out tomorrow. The only thing I put in the bed is guns and range gear, should fit fine in the 4R and be a bit more secure for quick trips in the store when I've got it loaded up.

Sounds like a great fit for you. I would personally never transport my firearms in the bed of a truck. They go in the cab. Good luck

Get the 4 runner. If you find you have regular hauling needs over and above the cargo area, get a cargo trailer. FJ with a flat utility roof rack (for hauling lumber) and a utility trailer (for quad, tractor, and other heavy loads) served me well for years.

I have a 2017 4runner pro and just picked up a 2019 tacoma, the 4runner has a lot more room in the cabin. Found out when trying to put the kids seats in the tacoma and they BARELY fit.

Work in progress for me. I need a truck, too many hobbies that result in nasty gear, lots of toys, projects, landscaping, lumber, hauling wood throughout the winter, etc., Wife has a CR-V and I keep trying to talk her into a 4Runner - her response is always that it's too big. She prefers a small, nimble go-kart. I keep trying to sell the safety aspects of a heavier, more solidly built truck-based SUV. Maybe it'll work someday but right now I don't love a 4Runner more than I love having a truck

If my Tacoma has taught me anything about Toyota it is that I will NEVER buy a new Toyota in it's first 2 years of production. Period. My truck was in beta test phase when it rolled off the line just over a year into 3rd gen production. I love it, but damn that first year was hell with me diagnosing and fixing stuff that I shouldn't have had to worry about on a new vehicle. Who know what really happened, perhaps tried to get a true refresh out ahead of the Colorado/Canyon/Ranger to compete, but I do not believe these trucks were truly ready for production in 16-17.

Will be exciting to see if the 4Runner refresh comes out and excites. Perhaps if still designed and fully assembled in Japan i'd reconsider for the wife next ride

If I get a 4Runner I’ll be hunting for one that was manufactured in Japan for sure. If the 4.0 power train goes away I’m opting for a 2019. My truck is having weird transmission things going on so I’m thinking on jumping on an 18 before the year ends too to avoid any big headache.

The wife already has her eyes set on a 2019 RAV4 Adventure Edition, nice looking rigs.

They are nice for sure.... I still wish they had stuck with more of a boxy body style. We used to have an '06 Rav, put over 240k on it and it's still running fine at 280ish (sold to a friend). Tons of space in that thing. It wasn't powerful with that 4cyl nor was it fast. And oddly always had weird shift issues when using cruise so we rarely used it... First time I rode in one of the smaller CUV-style generation I was sad. Funny how some vehicles just get bigger (Tacomas, Tundras, 4Runners) and others get smaller
