Very minor personal preference type complaints. No smart keyless entry, no push button start, no remote/automatic open/lift for back hatch, no heated steering wheel, lacking the wireless cellular charging the Tacoma has, rear wiper coverage is small, cargo floor isn't completely flat with rear seat folded, tiny little nitpicky stuff that may not matter to some...and the "Limited" t4r may offer/correct some of these....but then you lose the off road capacity without mods.

% wise- initial cost to retained resale value- the 4runner does NOT hold its value quite as well (5% roughly) as the Tacoma has historically. Note however, that may or may not change as time progresses and the 4runner also introduces a redesign. Both hold their value significantly better then most all other vehicles.

2010 my cousin paid 29k for 2011 SR5 4x2 I just traded it in and got 19.5k in trade in trade in value. Private sale was 21-22k. So it does pretty well.

I didn't get one because of the old trans and motor in the 4Runners, went with the Taco. Guess what, motor and trans is Poo anyway lol. If I had to do it again I would go the 4Runner probs

I sold my 2011 4Runner SR5 in 2016 with 110k miles for $23,500. All it had was aftermarket wheels and tires along with tinted windows.

I wonder if the redesign will cause the 5th gen t4R resale to increase...based on the known durability of the motor.

The weight rests upon what power train will be in the redesign. I think that’ll be the deciding factor for a lot of people like myself to either go for the new gen, or go buy one of the remaining 19’s.

I got the 19 cause I was more afraid of losing the body and frame type.

Same boat, just haven’t pulled the trigger. Waiting to see the first leak of the new redesign will be worth waiting. If the design is butt ugly I’ll be getting a 19’ without a doubt.

There are tub-type plastic liners for the 4Runner bed, also a Canvasback liner one can use underneath tubs. But yeah, you can't hose clean a Runner like a truck bed. And if your dog has an altercation with a skunk you definitely want a truck bed.

Another factor is the 4.0 4Runner isn't available with the V6 Tow Package option offered for the Tacoma. Even if you never tow that option is nice to have for the 130A alternator and external trans cooler.

KDSS, there's a lot of discussion on T4r.org Good concept, hydraulic control for the front and rear swaybars, but IMO using hydraulics like KDSS or the previous XREAS for suspension control is goofy.

Have a taco now and will keep it for when the boy starts driving. Will have a 4Runner Pro when the next gen hits. Or Tundra, whichever comes first. Love yotas

KDSS - Drive one with it back to back with one without it. Put both through their paces on and off road. Research it. Those who don't understand KDSS, or its function, or have never driven it....won't get it. Like everything else, you will mostly get uneducated chatter about it. IMO, its worth EVERY penny of the option cost. FWIW, YMMV, Outlaw out.

I don't get why the TRD Pro doesn't offer KDSS...

The only downside to kdss is that it will limit your lift height options. Just an FYI.

Short of long travel I agree. 3" lift is plenty for my 4Runner anymore you run in CV axle angle issues.
Happy with my 3" lift on Kings
