Taco TRD Off Road or new 4Runner TRD OR with KDSS?

Posing a dilemma (at least in my eyes). I’m pretty happy with my ‘16 Taco except for the usual tranny issues everyone has with the 3rd Gens. I’ve built it up a bit with many TRD Pro accents. It looks like a pro except for the color and it lacks the suspension and 4 wheel drive. Anyway, I’m pondering a switch to an ‘18 4Runner TRD OR Premium with KDSS. Looking for advice to sway me in either direction from fellow Taco owners or some 4Runner folks who may be in this forum. The 4Runner lacks the same power, towing capacity, infotainment, BSM and parking sensors the Taco has. Also no bilsteins. Mileage is a tad lower (5 speed vs 6 speed) too but not a big factor in my decision. I’ve done some “shopping” on line and have scored what I think is a good deal for a trade and out the door price thanks to a moderate amount of equity in my Taco. They do hold their value as do most Toyotas. I expect the 4Runner would too. Any thoughts either way out there? Truck or SUV?

Go test drive one. Only you know what works best for you and your situation. When I was considering it, test driving made up my mind. Only thing I miss is the individual tire pressure readout on the dash. But everyone has different likes and wants.

I did drive one this this past weekend at a local dealer (a '17 model). Liked it. That's what got me interested. Dealer sales guy was a jerk giving me crappy out-the-door numbers on trading my Taco. Walked out. Found a good deal a couple hours away on an '18 that the numbers are very good on even though they have not seen my truck yet. Still working with them as we speak. I would miss the infotainment features of the Taco plus the blind spot monitoring and parking sensors. And the sound of my TRD Pro exhaust but I suppose I can put that on the 4Runner too. In my opinion the Taco has a a bit more power even though HP and torque numbers are the same. Has to be in the rear end and transmission gear ratios. The dealer will let me swap my TRD Pro wheels on to the 4Runner and along with black predator bars it will look great with a blackout package and Pro grille and skid plate. I figure the only thing left to make it a Pro (minus the color) would be the shocks. Plus I would have the KDSS and a moon roof.
    Thanks for the feedback.
Done anything to your rig? I bet it is sharp.

I hope everything works out for your liking. The only thing I have done so far is to plasti dip my door handles black. Adds a nice contrast as well as scratch protection. And just put its winter double coat of wax on, fluid filming this week too. I absolutely love this rig!

Thanks for all the inputs. Am going with a new (‘18) classic silver TRD OR Premium with KDSS and cargo tray, moon roof too ($38,500) Truck is on boat inbound to Vero Beach dealer after a stop at port. Not installing any port options. Will add later my wants. First thing is predator steps. Ideas where to get best quality ones and price? Dealer will give me for cost of $510, obviously Toyota ones. I’m keeping the TRD pro wheels/Falken Wildpeaks off my Tacoma as part of the deal and swapping.
Also parting out some upgrades that will come off Tacoma when reinstalling OEM stuff.
    Pro Grille
Shift Sense Pro (to help with Tacoma, 3rd gen shifting issues). Plug and play.
    TRD Pro shift knob
    TRD Pro Rigid LED Fogs
Gentex Mirror with home link and compass. Plug and play on 3rd gens.
Might remove hard tri fold tonneau too (Rugged II model)
Would take off TRD Pro skid plate too but tossed the OEMs a while back.
Dealers never give any trade value to these items so might as well get some return if possible. Open to offers but will price later. I’m in Jensen Beach, FL 34957 for any folks close by.
Hoping this is a good decision.
