turbo charging is not at all any cheaper. it's just a different means to the same end, and the way the power builds is slightly different. but don't ever delude yourself into ever thinking that turbo charging is cheaper.

That video is already 8 months old. 3rd gen turbo kits have been 'almost ready' for ~4 years now.

    Everything I've seen/read, they're all turbo 4's. No more V6.
Just my opinion, but I don't understand why you would take perfectly great engines (Normally aspirated) that are known for a very long long life and want to shorten the life expectancy of it. Turbo engines simply just don't last as long. Plus, you now have another list of maintenance and stuff to go wrong.

    exactly!
Also, like any product, how could they claim they would be cheaper, when the product isn't finished? Makes no sense.

Pricing out a used 2024 Tacoma in 2025 will probably yield you a turbocharged, capable, reliable Tacoma at lower cost, and in about the same time, with far less hassles.

Gas mileage and emissions. All manufacturers are struggling to keep up with CAFE standards.

It's funny how people blame the manufacturers when it's the big GOV.
And yes, I get it, there are old engines and gas guzzlers still in production and available today, but manufacturers add the penalty they receive on to the cost of goods sold, as any business would.

I have wondered if it is the convergence of emissions regulations and design/manufacturing tech advancing to the point of being able to engineer right up to a short and curly before failure..it’s not that a turbo engine can’t last, it’s just they’re now designed to only be as durable as they need to be for their purpose (in this case, an extra light duty mass produced “disposable“).

Nothing wrong with wanting anything. It sounds fun. But as others have said it has gotta be expensive.

It would probably be cheaper to LS swap and turbo into a 3rd gen - than all the research for fuel management without blowing up your engine.

but I get it… it sounds fun.

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
It was 8K for my Magnuson, installed myself. Add 5.29 hears and full exhaust and tundra throttle body for about 11K. That makes 400hp at the crank, 340hp at the wheels. Definitely worth it to me.

That's impressive. Aftermarket downpipes and 2.5" exhaust added as well?

Most everything this layman has read on the interwebs about forced induction on the 2GRFKS claims there's issues port fueling the last cylinders at the power numbers you're putting down (without fuel rail or some aftermarket fuel system additions.)

Fwiw Your $8k USD is on par with @Tac2277 's $10k of funny money Canadian dollars.

Correct the exhaust is OVTune catted dump tubes (so two of the down stream cats are removed and two new cats remain in the dump tubes) with 2.5inch pipes all the way back. I was surprised with how restricted the stock exhaust was.

I didn't mention it but yes there is an issue with last two cylinders being starved for fuel pressure (damn stock fuel rail is literally shaped like a horse shoe) so I bought JamesT's custom fuel rails with the loop back.

What’s the tundra throttle body do? Wouldn’t it mess with the Magnuson?

The Throttle body out of a 5.7L tundra is 76mm as opposed to the 70mm TB that comes stock on the Tacoma. While 6mm extra might not seem like a lot it has 18% more cross sectional area so more air flow. It is a direct plugin, no modifications required (and ECU controls it with no problems, MAF sensor also has no problems), though an adapter is required (URD sales them if I remember correctly). I also ported out the intake of the Magnuson to be at least 76mm as well.

If anyone is interested the throttle body part number is 22030-0P010. Also there is a thread somewhere on TW about it.

Does it do anything? I don't know. I measured everything in the air intake and the TB and SC Intake are the two bottle necks in that system. I figure if I increase the airflow into the engine it would help overall.

So you haven’t gotten any calibration malfunctions from the larger TB and airflow? I was told even going with a aftermarket intake would mess with the calibration for the magnuson supercharger
