Ouch, bummer. The worst story about a deer strike was in Colorado right before I left the state. With all of the predators hunted out, the deer population exploded in the Boulder area in the '80s, they were everywhere, people where dying driving off the road to miss the deer, the news stations had to tell people to hit the deer, stay on the roadway. Idiots.

But anyways, one story was a mother driving down the road, hit a deer, it penetrated the windshield, flew into the back seat, where in it's death throws, killed her 2 children strapped into their car seats, terrible story.

Hope all turns out in your favor Mr OP.

Had a deer run into the side of my work truck. Just going down the road minding my own business and never even saw it. Just a bang and a bump as the duallys and boat trailer skipped over it. It hit the side of the truck bed. It must have spooked and jumped out of the bushes on the road side.

Was on the highway going about 65mph, saw the dear at the last minute and slammed on my brakes right before impact. I’d say somewhere around 50mph.

Elliot and I violated social distancing rules yesterday morning. The Taco executed the evasive maneuvers and deployed countermeasures. No direct hit. Some fur and a scuff to the fender flare. Truck has 1100 mikes

To be honest I don't remember exactly what the $$$ was - It was all thru insurance and the shop was meticulous in the repair (rejected some parts - Toyota parts - due to defects ) AND I'm in Canada so everything is 50% more expensive (it seems, anyways) - But I do recall it being over $10K - and the air bags didn't even go off.

Parts were hard to come by at the time so it took 1.5 months to fix (had f250 as loaner so wasn't too bummed)

I hope things work out OK for you!

(Edit ... FYI I was going ~ 50/55mph - I had ATV in bed of the truck and 6x10 utility trailer in tow - happened so fast that I didn't even brake - Bambi was right in front / underneath before I could react)

That's faster than I expected at least. Could've been worse - anyone familiar with the PBNation Deer Gore thread? Maybe don't google that at work if you're curious.
Yuck. It's astounding how expensive vehicles are to repair. As much as I hate insurance, as prevalent as deer are in my neck of the woods, this is the reason I will have a very low deductible for comprehensive.

I paid 1.64 this morning - I live in TN - it was a rural station between Chattanooga - Knoxville - Nashville. Since I drive a lot - 35-50K per year - I really appreciate these low prices!

Good luck on fixing up that nice truck OP.

Come black Friday it's a plate bumper with low center grill hoop time for me. About 10yrs ago I hit a large buck on the interstate at about 65 mph in a Tahoe dead center. He took out the radiator and a lot more.. including the hood latch. It's possible to drive looking through the slit under an open hood at night dodging a rolling deer and a semi to get off to the side, but not recommended. Armor up that center grill area for a lot more comfort at night.

Exactly. I live in the Great Northwest, and the thought of hitting a deer is not an 'if' thing, but more of a 'when and how many times' thing. I've hit 3 deer in the last 25 years, but because of what I was driving, not much damage. My wife has hit a deer twice in her Forester and my son once in a Caravan. All those resulted in shattered front ends. But that was all.
The big fear here is, hitting a moose. 800 lbs.on stilts. Almost guaranteed to come through the windshield, which never ever turns out well...

It's true. Deer are morons. You'd think that they would think 'Whew! Dodged a bullet on that one!' ... But no, they'll run off to the side of the road .. Out of the way ... Suddenly get stupid ... Decide to do a 180 and run right back into the side of your rig.
My mother-in-law just recently had to have the rear door of her Forester fixed because a deer ran away and then did a U-turn and ran right smack into her back door. Go figure.
