Photo dump of some recent changes to the truck.

Chevy 63's and shock relocation. One of the best mods I have done to date.

Rear bumper built, will match form with the flat bed once it is done. I ran the bumper on one trip before I started the tire gate and it worked like any bumper should. Its 2x4 3/16th" rectangular tubing, the recovery points are 1". They are welded onto the frame mounting plates which are 3/8" thick. The legs that are branching off of the rear of the receiver tube are 1.5" square tubing; they're tied into the frame mount plates to help distribute that load outward.

The swing out addition I started on last weekend. Super simple and beefy. Made out of the same rectangular tubing and hooked to a double shear hinge. The bolt in the hinge is 1" thick. Shouldn't be going anywhere. Still need to cap all of the ends, add a rubber isolator where the gate closes to the bumper and then add a latch.

Did a thing this last weekend, pick up a GM 14 bolt. Came out of a 98 3/4 Ton Van. The outside is pretty dirty but all the bearings and innards have checked out to be in great condition. I have some plans for the axle and its the start of a very slow road to SAS for the truck.

if anyoinie is curious, yes you can fit one of these in the back of a 2017 Nissan rogue

Pulled the shafts out to check the condition of them, looks to be pretty good.

Went ahead and pulled the hub as well so that I can begin pulling the old drum brake hardware off.

The spindle nut, c clip and lock key

Pulled the old drum and hardware off and this is what we are left with.

Found some mild pitting where the u bolts were, not to terrible.

Then you’ll love this. Flat bed will happen before Jambo for sure. SAS is a ways out, I need my money tree to start growing again.

    Things happening pics.

New tires, have had them sitting for over a month, thanks @ThatguyNick

Pulled the bed off, had a list of items i wanted to accomplish before I started on the flatbed itself. Mostly reinforcing the frame, cleaning old mounts off and laying new/better welds on the spring mount.

    Weight reduction?

New cross member. I'll buy you a beer if you can give the scientific explanation as to why it is not a perfect X on the cross member.

Then some bad influences came into play and challenged me to shorten the frame...so I did. Removed 7" off of it and it allowed me to tie the rear bumper into the cross member piece as well.

Next will be to box the frame where I can and then the bed build starts this weekend hopefully!

Damn, great progress on the flat bed!

I tried to google the question about the non perfect X... but came up with nothing.
