Although it'd cost more, I'd sure wish the parts were "Made in the USA"/"Made in Japan" vs. "made in Mexico" and I think less of "made in china" parts, I'd rank "made in Mexico" over "made in China" from some of the experiences I've had with their goods. I believe people, no matter where the assembly plants are, who put it all together have pride in their workmanship or else they are out of their jobs, my worries are of where them parts are manufactured.

The thing is OP didn’t open the “quality difference “ discussion.

All the self righteous same quality regardless people jumped in the fill the void.

    Too funny.

Where is the blower motor mfg in your heater/ac assembly? China! I would bet the failed serpentine belt pulleys do not have koyo japan mfg bearings anymore. We used to and still do pay a premium over other trucks to get Toyota quality, this reputation was based on nothing else but quality mfg parts packages installed by quality workers. These quality japan made parts would last a long long time. Koyo Bearings from japan, asin water pumps japan mfg, Denso alternators japan mfg, we been paying a long time for these top quality parts, now I am seeing more and more cost cutting china made parts showing up in Tacomas. Thailand made axles/ring/pinions, etc.

If it makes you feel better...all 3 plants source parts from the same suppliers, including engines from Alabama. And last I read, the Tacoma was at 60+% domestic parts content level.

I’d rather have a Taco built in Japan than Texas or México, never gonna happen though.

Is not about where's manufactured but more about quality control. A Toyota is a Toyota. Pretty sure Toyota corp. is not going to have stricter QC in one plant than the other.

I say its more about the individual parts being used to build the truck now. To be reliable it needs quality parts. Something that is quickly going away before your eyes. No matter how well you assemble low quality parts its going to fail much sooner than if put together with quality parts.

Don't know why you're coming down on me but just like the OP mentioned "hint""hint" "made in Mexico". On my recent experience with a brand new less than 200 mile shock absorder "made in Mexico" Leaked oil, lol. The problem is not where the trucks are Assembled, idk. Need quality parts in these Expensive Toyota's.

Come on now, let's be honest. What was the OP thoughts opening up the "made in Mexico" quip? and his defective fan blower about? lol, just to figure where the manufacturing plants are? you gotta be joking me. LOL, althought the OP comment was posted on Friday, today just so happens to be a SATURDAY!

As far as pride in workmanship, thats debatable considering some of our domestic manufactures vehicles i've seen over the years.

Its not so much an issue with me as for quality, but more that american workers have jobs in america.

lol, I could imagine. Although what's already be shown how China could substitute a concoction with melamine to make that xtra few pennies on a piece of goods. There's just something not right with the raw materials or something, who knows exactly what but what already is known out here. lol

I would hope an American Company wouldn't go that low to make that xtra pennies. I've never spent so much money for a new vehicle in my whole 65 years of life and bought a Tacoma for it's reliability, I bet there'll be parts that goes bad no matter what though, lol

Half of all Tacomas were already being assembled in Mexico....have since 2004. It isn't some massive jump, really. It was done for production reasons. Zero jobs in Texas are being lost. Toyota needed to free up production capacity in Texas for the all new 3rd gen Tundra coming down the pipe as well as taking on a new Sequoia to be built along side the new Tundra. The current Sequoia is produced in Indiana. By moving production from Indiana to Texas, it allows more Highlander production (which are red hot right now) and creates more room for the new 2021 hydrid-only Sienna which is expected to sell well. This shift in Indiana is actually expect to add some jobs.

And....at the end of the day....how can we get upset about a FOREIGN manufacturer producing products outside the USA. Imagine someone in Italy being miffed that GM is producing cars in China. :notsure:

I'd rather buy a reliable truck made in Mexico than any Chevy made in the US.
