You might mean Canada. Many GM vehicles are assembled there....not here

It never dawned on me to check until now. My 2018 was made in Mexico. I have not had any issues so far.

I agree there. I had a Chevy S10 and always had a full pump problem and fuel injection problem. Thank goodness for xtented warranty. When that expired I dropped it like a hot potato

The worst vehicles Toyota ever made come out of Japan. Rusty shitboxes with the 3.0 leaking oil at the dealer. Gutless pickups, with tinfoil-thick doors and boxes that started rusting before they even arrived on the ship. My front shock towers on my Tahara-built Celica peeled away from the unibody and collapsed into the engine compartment.

    Crap vehicles.

Thank god Toyota started making cars in Mexico and USA where people know what they are doing, can build a decent engine, and have reasonable quality control. The only blemish is those rusty truck frames. I have heard the frame paint was Japanese spec.

Toyota pioneered/innovated kanban manufacturing at scale. The process is proven and the dedication to quality assurance applies to all locations. A Taco coming out of Mexico is not a new concept (pun intended).

I was more curious as to why Toyota hasn’t learned from getting supplied with poor quality blowers, and maybe shopped around to find more reliable ones to be supplied.

    Also what sounds better?

My Tacoma was made in the USA.
My Tacoma was made in Mexico.

I wouldn't be surprised if other bits and pieces are made in covidland...Tacoma plant from San Antonio supposed to be totally moved to Mexico by 2022...apparently just across the border...i think this is going to leave a huge economic hole in the local Texas economy...companies are all greedy!...but will see after November what will happen because Ford changed their mind...and now they are back in Detroit...

I'll agree those early pickups from toyota would rust out pretty good, but they were cheap to buy, and reliable. Their 4 cylinder engines were bulletproof, just low hp. Never had any issues with the rest of their drivetrains either.

I don't mean to be a nitpicker here so please excuse me but this is simply not true -- in fact, the exact opposite is true. The San Antonio plant is not being moved to Mexico. Toyota has already stated publicly that the plant will be re-tooled to produce Tundras and Sequoias. In addition, they have already stated that there will be no job losses. More importantly, this is all part of a long term Toyota investment in scaling their operations here:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/17/toy...roduction-to-mexico-as-it-invests-13b-us.html

"Toyota Motor will shift all production of the Tacoma midsize pickup from Texas to Mexico as it restructures its North American footprint and invests $13 billion in U.S. manufacturing operations through next year.

Toyota says no U.S. jobs will be lost as a result of the change, which also includes bringing the Sequoia SUV to the San Antonio plant by 2022. The Texas plant, which also assembles the Tundra full-size pickup, has produced the Tacoma since 2010."

This shift will actually create a few jobs in Indiana.

The amount of misinformation swirling around in this thread is thick o_O

I am not an argumentative person (I just don't engage and move on) but I am a casual observer of the auto industry in general. I personally think it is harder to run an auto company than just about any other business all told.

I didn't see anything on Indiana mentioned in the overall Toyota strategy -- do you know what they produce there?

And for more background, worth noting this is all part of Toyota's investment strategy in the US:

BTW, I quoted your post because I agreed with it.

Indiana came on line in the late 90s. They produced the original gen 1Tundra and Sequoia and picked up the gen 2 Sienna when Toyota moved it from Kentucky to in turn make room for the gen 2 Solara there.

When Texas came online they picked up Tundra production from Indiana....freeing up Indiana to take on the Highlander. They currently produce the Highlander, Sienna and Sequoia. The next Sequoia will be assembled in Texas, since it and the Tundra share so much DNA anyway....freeing up more Highlander production for Indiana. Plus the upcoming gen 4 Sienna will be a hybrid-only vehicle and is expected to have an increase in sales.

When GM backed out of NUMMI (joint venture between Toyota and GM) during the Great Recession, that basically killed the plant, as a good chunk of the product produced there were rebaged Toyota to GM products...Geo/Chevy Prism/Corolla, Pontiac Vide and the slow selling JDM Vitz. Corollas were already produced in Canada and would soon be supplemented by the then new Mississippi plant. So no loss there for Toyota. But Taco production was at stake. That was a big deal.

So Toyota did what it had to to maintain Tacoma production. It scaled back Tundra production and made room for the Taco to help supplement the Baja plant. I suspect Toyota knew it wouldn't be permanent....and that full Mexican production would be an eventuality.

BTW, Toyota essentially gave the NUMMI plant to Tesla in exchange for battery technology.

I could go on and on about reasons for production shifts. But we don't have that kind of time.
