Thanks for the background on Indiana. Did not know that.

Totally understand that you agreed with me -- I was adding in that announcement from Toyota as further proof / background statement that supported your point. All good.

As an aside, one of the things I would love to see one day (probably won't ever happen for obvious reasons) is the strategic product document regarding Tacoma trim levels ... what data is driving what feature and which truck gets it, etc. A fella can dream I suppose ... But then again, as you point out, we don't have that kind of time. :)

It's a delicate balance between customer demand and assembly line efficiency. Low volume options make for additional cost and complications. Build and offer what the majority of the buying pool wants is where it's at. I'm surprised that the current Taco even offers a manual transmission....albeit only teamed with the V6/4x4 combo. For every buyer who buys one....50 people will walk right by it when they see the 3rd pedal. It's days are probably numbered. And that's the case with most all models. Toyota produces the Corolla SE in a 6 speed manual. They can't give them away.

100% agree with you. My assumption is that like a lot of industries Toyota has a customer profile -- this kind of customer will look for these features and therefore we should add this and that for that kind of buyer profile. I would like to see that.

Agree with you on the manual transmission unfortunately. It is like the whole thing about auto journalists ... to them the perfect car is a manual wagon. They implore all manufacturers to build them and promise they will sell in droves and yet no one buys a wagon anymore. Full disclosure, I tried to buy the Mercedes wagon, the BMW wagon and the Jaguar wagon but my wife wouldn't let me. :)

....and certainly not a wagon with a manual gear box.....not that anyone makes one anymore.

But yeah....so much truth in your statement. Auto journalist....and enthusiast forms for that matter, account for a tiny fraction of the buying pool. And it's not that manufacturer's don't want to please the minority....it's just that the minority does not pay the bills.

I agree with you guys, and those journalists. The MT Wagon is a one-and-done utility workhorse. I come from MT Subaru Outbacks and Imprezas. But they aren’t as badass as the Tacoma and don’t have quite as much utility, so there’s one less buyer in the future....

So true ! Those MT Subarus were so much fun. I had the Forrester XT and that thing was an absolute rocket. And that Jaguar wagon! But the truth is I enjoy my Tacoma so much more. I have a BMW X1 (great little car) but I don't drive it as much since I got the 2020 TRD OR. I actually prefer the Tacoma ...

My 2019 DCLB was built Dec 2018 in Texas. My understanding is all Canadian models were built at the Texas plant at that time. By 2021 all production should be in Mexico. Sucks as I would much rather have an American or Canadian built vehicle.

Back when a MT Subaru was really a Subaru. This was my first new vehicle - a 1976 Subaru 4WD wagon. First year for the selectable 4WD and no auto transmission available. Car payment was $75/month and I was getting a $100/month stipend for being in advanced Army ROTC.

And then, my current MT -a '96 Z3 that I bought new during my last tour in Germany.

The Tacoma is an AT, but I still love driving it!

Just received word that the 2020 Sport AC, MT with Premium & XP Predator packages in Quicksand that I "ordered" back in February, just left the port. VIN indicates it was produced in Mexico.
