Hello everyone!! I own a 2006 Tacoma TRD SR5. I am looking to buy new tires and wheels for my ride. I took my tacoma off roading last week and was a little disappointed because I got stuck quite a lot. I'm looking to upgrade my rims and tires. I currently have stock tacoma wheels with 265 65 R17... Im looking at getting 18' wheels...Im feeling the Ballistic Jester black wheels with the red inserts. My question is if I upgrade to 18" wheels will it rub? My truck is completely stock. What size 18" tires should I buy?

265/60/18 will be about the same as you are running....265/65/18 should be about the same dimensions as a 265/75/16 so should also work....check the tire calculator for actual sizes, though some vary with mfg. Much more than one size up from stock and fitment starts to be an issue requiring some work on the truck. Rule of thumb is for each inch up in rim size drop one aspect ratio as in 70 series tire on a 16", 65 series tire on a17", 60 series tire on an 18"...so if all were a 265, they would all have close to the same over all dimensions.

Uh, increasing rim size won't help you avoid getting stuck. You know that right?

From an off-roading traction perspective, the best thing to do is to keep your current rims and go to a 265 70R17 tire in a more agressive tread pattern, then air it down to about 20lbs psi when you go off roading.

The lower profile the tire, the less air volume it holds, and the less you can air it down without risking breaking a bead.

The reason I suggest keeping your current rims is that most aftermarket rims have less backspacing and more negative offset than the factory rims, moving the wheels outboard in the wheel well.

At stock ride height, you can usually either increase diameter by an inch, OR use less backspacing, but typically not both. And the larger diameter will help you more offroad than the change in offset.

If it's for looks, go ahead and pick an 18" rim you like and just run a 265/60R18 tire on it.

If he does with a 20 then he will be able to tackle any obstacle.

I run 265/65/18's too. Lots of people use tires this diameter on the 17" and 16" wheels.

I am looking at the same situation with regards to rim and tire size.... Vantage how do find the tire size change affects your mileage and or speedometer readings? .... do you notice if your have in to drive faster/slower to keep up with traffic?

285/60/18, -18 offset. Stock suspension, had to remove front mud flaps which I didn't mind I like the look without them. Minor trimming which you will never see and now no rub.
