Hey, if someone is gonna replace my frame for free...I'm gonna make sure it happens.

Sounds like this won't apply to me, but my truck started in Hawaii, so maybe there's hope

Not in my case. Dealer told me I could cut them off if I wanted before they took the old frame. They didn't have a problem with them (welded on).

Ok so yeah it is extended for CA trucks for sure 15 years and Im pretty sure you didnt need to get any undercoating or anything because it wasnt offered. Also they said although its a lot of rust its surface rust. They hit it with a hammer and said no holes so no new frame. Just tons of surface rust.. Called customer service and they wont do anything unless a 10 mm hole is in the frame. So what should i do. I have until August 20 to find a 10 mm hole in the frame to get it replaced. Otherwise im stuck with a severely surface rusted frame. Should i make it rust a 10 mm hole or just let waranty lapse and maybe have problems in the future? These pics are about the average rust that is everywhere on the frame.

how about you just knock the rust off of it and paint it with por-15, inside and out? I mean it doesn't look bad to me for something that old that was never coated and sits on the bottom of a vehicle exposed to the elements.

if Toyota will not coat it, sand or blast it and coat it yourself. or get it professionally done. the fact there is no holes means you have a good working canvas to do whatever. it's been over 14 years and no major perforations, I'd say your frame will hold up. mine has been good due to me coating it in used oil every year (which I haven't done since they coated it as part of the TSB)

well considering the age of our trucks one should be a little interested in preventative maintenance imho. If I had a truck with a frame that had nothing but surface rust on it you better believe I would tackle it before it became an issue. A solid frame is a solid frame whether it is an original you put some effort into or a replacement frame that in itself creates hassle. Just my $.02 ymmv

Yes that is mainly my question. Looking at that por15 stuff now. Yeah I painted it up once that is the peeling paint in the pictures.

or you can just grease the shit out of your frame. Grease will keep the rust from spreading and getting worse

If you paint your frame, the paint will end up peeling off eventually, because of the rust underneath the paint. Though, POR15 seems to be made for this, so maybe it will hold, idk

POR-15 is some sick stuff but I still knock as much crap off the frame as possible before painting with it. I usually will take a wire wheel on a drill and knock the crap down then blast with air from my compressor before painting. I have never had por-15 flake off

Ill prob be looking into how to get teh rust off for the por 15 stuff. I am at an apartment complex now and not with any of my tools or a place to work. Might need to price out a place that does this kind of job or wait till summer

Using a needle scaler is probably the best bet for removing rust. Your frame looks almost exactly like mine.

Since you've posted on here, I wouldn't make a hole if I were you. Evidence...fraud...blah blah blah.

We're in the same boat. Remove the rust, coat the frame. If it hasn't succumbed to the cancer yet, theres a good chance it's not happening any time soon
