Man, I'd get that double checked. Didn't the coating extend coverage through 15 years from build/deployment?

Our local yota dealership kinda sucks,I don't live too far from the dealership where it originally was coated at in 10 so maybe I'll check with them, but even when I called Toyota from the parking lot of the dealership i was at an gave the girl the VIN,she said the same thing that she would open a case file but since they coated it they wouldn't do anything else.

Must a state thing, I called and gave my VIN and they said nothing like that popped up other than the spare tire recall.

This is a bs statement from both. My closest dealer also said the same thing and when I called Toyota HQ they told me that if it was coated by a Toyota dealer that it would be covered for 15 years from the inservice date (rolled off the lot). I think I replied to you before about double checking this, I wouldn't waste any more time and start calling again. If your truck was coated by a dealer back in 2010-11, then you should be getting a new frame since you have a hole more than 10mm. The shit they use to coat the frames was pointless, all it did was cover up the rust and let it spread under the coating. My frame had the coating intact in some areas and behind it was nothing but rust. When the dealer did the inspection they told me that there were areas that were soft but weren't allowed to puncture it so it passed. two days later i saw areas in the rear wheel well that didn't look good so i poked it with my finger and an area 2"x6" fell into the frame. Took it straight back to Toyota and they took pics and sent it to HQ. Had a new frame at the dealer within 4-4 1/2 months.

i'm worried about my '04. i have two silver dollar sized holes in my frame...just above the rear axle on both sides. those holes are now accompanied by cracks that run a frightening way through the remaining frame and the bed is now tilting away from the cab. i called the local dealership (colorado) and they said, "yeah, bring it on in and we'll do the frame inspection." i took it to Toyota this past week and they told me, "Toyota is still litigating the class-action lawsuit and we've been told NOT to inspect, maintain, or otherwise touch any frame until the lawsuit is settled." Then the guy said, "I see the hole in your frame, you see the hole in your frame. There's nothing more we'd be able to see by putting it on a lift anyway."

They said they expected to hear something "after the first of the year" and got my current contact information to make sure I was notified by Toyota when a decision had been reached.

in the meantime, what happens if the frame fails? i don't feel safe in it but i need a vehicle. do i have any other recourse?

Google Toyota HQ and give them a call. Have your VIN ready

i emailed HQ, and they told me that they already answered my question about frame replacement on Nov 22. While partially true, I did call on that date to get information, all i gave them was my vin and they told me that they didn't have any records of my truck being coated so i was out of luck. I replied to them indicating that my truck began its life in Hawaii, and that PO told me that he'd never gotten information from Toyota about the frame inspections. they basically just reiterated "we already gave you an answer on November 22nd".

less than helpful given the fact that i was bringing new information to the table. i get that they gave me an answer on the 22nd, but that was with more limited information.

can't blame them for being avoidant, but they can't blame me for being pushy.

i'm keeping my eye out for all options until my 15yr anniversary comes.

I just took mine in for an inspection; it's an 04 with a nickel size hole the very end of the frame. The dealer agreed it need to be replaced but that they had to get it OK'd by Toyota. I'd already called Toyota customer service to verify my truck was qualified for the replacement if a hole was found in the frame. Mine had the rust proofing and inspection done in 2012. Anyhow, the dealer called me back and took pictures and sent them to Toyota corporate HQ and is waiting to hear back.

Bottom line is Toyota is currently doing frame replacements.

I just got a call from my local Toyota dealer. Corporate Toyota agreed to replace the frame. They said it's about $18K in parts, which should be in in 2-3 weeks.

Waiting for a call back from Toyota on my '04 after putting my thumb through the frame today. Now it is a very strong thumb that gets worked out regularly but....

Almost the same exact spot my index finger pushed through on my 03. Good luck on the frame replacement!

That's awesome man!! Much better than how I was treated. I didn't get a loaner and the service manager straight up lied about shit even though I have email proof of what he said. Will never spend a dime in that dealer ever again and wish I found one as good as yours!! Lol

That is really awesome man, this was the closest dealer around (30 min away) and the next one was 30 min past it. Both dealers thought the program was over so i called corporate to see for myself. Either way its been done now for a few months and couldnt be happier. Makes for putting on my lift and everything else I've purchased much easier to do since since everything is not rusted solid. Congrats on the new frame and finding a dealer that actually cares about its customers and not just looking for your money!

Turned the new Tacoma back into the dealership today, I just couldn't handle it anymore. The terrible fuel economy, constantly hunting for gears on the highway, and the Mnt light coming on 2 days after I brought it home. They offered to give me a Camry, i declined. They refused to give me the keys to my truck back saying it was unsafe to drive so I will just have to drive my other vehicles until it is done sometime around 5 months from now

I put over 2000 miles on that truck since I had it, obviously highway miles. the truck averaged 14.8 mpg that was mostly flat state travel with cruise control set. This thing is an auto but it couldn't go up a 3% grade at 70 mph without downshifting and the trans always seemed to be hunting for the proper gear to be in. It was quite a disappointment but I already knew I had no interest in a new one
