Hey, recently i had p0420 popped up and it means cat bellow threashold bla bla bla, if its just for emission i don’t care, in here, in quebec we don’t have emission test, i just wonder what would be the obvious signs of a clogged cat, trucks idle perfect, runs great, getting about 500kms on each tank which with lift kit and off bumpers seems good to me, no obvious power loss, any ideas to look for?

P0420 isnt a plugged cat, its a dead cat.

The HC and CO etc are no longer being converted to H2O and CO2. So the exhaust starts to smell like raw fuel and you'll see less water in the exhaust pipe.

Usually P0420 has zero effect on performance.

You can run a downstream o2 sensor extension or a rear o2 sensor simulator to get rid of the code.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
I had that code. Turned out to be a leak from the cat to the Y pipe.
With a scan tool and an app like torque, I created graph gauges for both banks one and two O2 sensors. Bank one was all over the place while bank two was smooth.

$30. Dollars and a couple hours later the code was gone and the graph gauge was nice and smooth.
