Looking to purchase my first Tacoma soon. Is there any reason to favor a 2012 over a 2013? I can't find any substantial differences and buying a 2012 saves more $$ for the build. If all things were equal other than say mileage and price any reason to pick the 2013 over the 2012?

2012 year are known to have failing smog pump since it is the first year Toyota put them on the V6.

I have a 2012 with 50k and have not have any issues. Yes it could happen, but it's not to say that every 2012 will have this issue. I wouldn't sweat it OP

Agree, probably not every one will have this issue. It does seem like it should have been worthy of a recall though and fixed on Toyota's dime.

If you can afford a 13 that's the one you should get...of course a 15 would be the best 2nd gen option

If you're getting an access cab, 06-08 are the best because they have a better folding rear seat design. I may be a little biased too.

2013 as the ecu has been programmed to do a shutdown purge of the air injection system to rid it of unwanted moisture.

I don't understand people who say the 15's are better than the 13's. Aren't they identical except the 15's don't have the auto-dim rear view mirror with temp/compass? So really, the 13's are better no?

I just think the newest vehicle would be the best one to purchase, sure there are minor differences.

i think the rvm changed - '12 has rear camera, homelink/garage door opener, auto-dimming mirror with compass while '13 just has plain old mirror. stereo is different because '13 has the screen for backup camera unless you get a '12 with the entune screen. i think '13 is the first year heated seats were an option but i could be wrong. there is another change too i want to say but can't remember.

I have the 13' and it has the home link/garage, auto dimming and compass. I do have the limited though, so not sure of the other trim levels.
