2019 taco 2.7L thinking on removing inner fender 90% elbow and box. (inner liner box only) for less restrictive air flow and better throttle response....
    leaving stock airbox.....
my truck is lifted and dont do any river crossing.....
read online no real power gains but better throttle response....

btw...my taco would have to be in 5ft deep water before water would get in inner fender well airbox hole, with or without resonator....

    any pros and cons.....

I figured the 2.7 3rd gen couldn't do that mpg. Now I want one

view from inner fender before installed longer rubber gasket. newer gasket is a lil over 1" longer and much thicker...
note there plenty of room between intake hole and fender....

btw...taco is 2019 with 15000 miles and note the inside fender is very clean...
meaning very little dirt or dust gets in there....

this is how much new rubber gasket sticks out....if in the future i do notice water in the airbox...very easy fix by adding a short up turn ext..
but dont think ill have problems...
trd cold air intakes have a similar set up from factory or kit with a rubber piece called a air accelerator.... with no problemsIMG_20200919_125759~4.jpg

    finally....overall HAPPY!
    better throttle response.
better gas mileage. hope it stays like that lol....
noise increase is like 10 percent more imo....not enough to bother me....
power gains...i dont think so... but overall I'm happy I did it.....

    So... I have a 2020 SR 2.7 4x4

I am considering this mod to gain some MPG. How has this been over the past few years? Anything you would have done differently? I assume to get this done you would have to pull out the passenger side fender liner.

I’ve had the same done for a while removed the charcoal filter from the top of the air box, removed the elbow, and put a trd accelerator in place and a afe drop in filter. Zero issues it feels smoother, there is no downsides I see

I'm assuming this didn't help (or hurt) in the MPG category. I too have been contemplating this mod along with the accelerator. I can't really find a reason to rip it out aside from maybe gaining some throttle response, however I can't help but think I should do this if there aren't any drawbacks.... It's not like I have my truck in deep waters or on overly dusty trails regularly. I dislike elimination of OEM components, however if there is a clear benefit I'll do it

Maybe next tire rotation... Seems easier to do if I have the tire off

I will definitely consider. Just anticipating the disappointment when I swap my cold air for my stock intake :(

Why not just leave the intake and compliment it with the elbow mod?
