    I don't consider myself a towing expert, but if you balance your load to keep the tongue weight down to a few hundred pounds, your suspension should be fine. You want the trailer suspension to take most of the weight.

    Quick question for everyone. Would it be typical to add D rings to this style trailer? After looking at the trailer this morning, I don’t see any spots to secure chains for a tractor, etc. Maybe D rings welded to the outer metal frame?

    That's a plain in the ass, isn't it? I don't know why those hilljacks can't build them with! It's so handy to have 4-6 counter sunk D-rings in the floor so you can pull things down. I don't have on my latest trailer (just a lil guy) but the other two, I had to cut the deck and bolt to the metal underneath. Not a huge project,, but it seems like it'd much much easier to build with.

    Not needed. You can hook or wrap your straps anywhere on the side rails or lower edge of frame. When I haul my John Deere tractor, I wrap one end of the strap around the axel and the other end at the corner of the trailer. Four straps and you're done.

    You shouldn't. You asked the right questions, just at the wrong time. Besides, you learned from it and all ended well, so, far from stupid.

    As for the suspension and Timbrens, I have an Off Road and my truck would porpoise pretty badly on the stock suspension no matter how the load was balanced. I originally added sumo springs and helped tremendously by eliminating the purposing. I eventually went to Dakar HD's to fix the sag.

    I'd say just use it and see what you need to do from there to be comfortable and safe. I'd bet you will end up with Airbags, Sumos, Timbrens, or leafs at some point if you are towing regularly though at anything over a light load. But try it and go from there.

    For a utility trailer, you will want 10%-15% tongue weight. I would be very careful going below 10% tongue weight. The issue with having a light tongue weight is that you will get sway. If you have a 4k-6k lbs trailer swaying behind a Tacoma, you are probably in trouble.

    I used a pull a 20’ flat bed trailer with (2) Polaris RZR’s behind my 2008 Tacoma. I never weighed it, but the total weight was probably @ 4000 lbs. My Tacoma did sag with the loaded trailer, so I put the Timbren’s on. They were easy to install. When nothing was in the bed, they were not engaged, and you didn’t even know they were there. They also worked great when there was enough load on them to fully engage them. Where I did not like the Timbren’s was when I would tow my 20’ flatbed empty. In that case, the frame rail was just above the Timbren. The ride was horrible. Any bump in the road would just about knock fillings loose.

    Great decision with the exchange. You will love how the new light aluminum trailer tows vs that huge old dump trailer.
