Use the owners manual, not a magazine, if you are trying to follow OE recommendations.

Magazine? Sounds like bullshit rantings with bad english.

Dead on though... the owner's manual exists for a reason after all.

Thanks for the verification. I am switching to Amsoil 5-30 for my next change. Toyota 0-20 just for cafe BS. Could not be clearer!

No doubt that is part of it. It doesn't mean it is a bad thing..... efficiency is a good thing usually.

They are only putting thinner oil in my truck to meet cafe standards!!!!!! They are sacrificing reliability to meet government regulations!!!! No way they could be keeping reliability and making better fuel economy!!! It's one or the other!!!!!!!!

    Terrible web site.

The 2GR has always used 5w20 or 0w20.

The older 1GR used 5w30, eventually going to 0w20 with the FJ and 4runner getting modern VVTI.

    No #GR has used 5w30 since 2015.

For Arizona I would consider 5w30 simply due to temp concerns. It's also way easier to find. But any normal 4 season climate I would never run 5w30 in a modern motor.

I pulled this out of a Australian market 2018 Toyota Highlander/Kluger owners manual that uses the same 2GR-FKS engine. Anything from 0W-20 to 15W-40 is acceptable so long as operating ambient temp is observed.

That graph used to be in all 90's toyota manuals haha, I used to run 5w40 in the summer on my car based on it. It truly is emissions and CAFE related.

The highland 2GR FKS Is higher output, so slightly different from Tacoma, but same bones.

Wouldn’t recommend running anything besides 0w-20 maybe 5w-20 at most.

Different parts of the world use different weight oils?!?! What?!?!

Screw all the conspiracies, you guys ever consider availability of certain weight oils in different parts of the world? You guys look way too hard into this stuff.

Can anyone explain why the RWD lexus variants have different intake manifolds than the Tacoma?
