Sadly I haven't had any time to throw Pro/E on my computer and try it.

I could do a 3d scan of my truck.

It wouldn't give you a solids model, but it would be a point cloud if you can handle that.

I could not open the IGES file in Solidworks. It just froze up my machine.

I downloaded this as well. Just crashes Solidworks...too big of a file. If anyone can open this, maybe they could pull out some of the detail to make it a smaller file?? I'll report back if I can get it to open anywhere...

There quite a few drawings of second gen Hilux's in Sketchup's 3D Warehouse. I haven't checked to see how dimensionally accurate they are, but several are very detailed. One even has an interior. There is a also a very cool drawing of a Hilux prepped for arctic travel. There is a very detailed drawing of the 6' bedliner for a 2nd gen. It claims to be +/- 1/8". I haven't found any good drawings of a second gen truck.

The problem with the Hilux drawings it's hard to know how close it comes to the Tacoma dimensions. The one Hilux model that I have measured shows a bed that is several inches shorter than a Tacoma bed. The bed also does not have tapered sides, but more traditional rectangular side rails.

Sketchup drawings are in their own format - .skp. Sketchup Pro will export to .dwg and .dxf. Sketchup Pro gives you 8 free hours of use before it reverts to Sketchup Make, which has limited export functionality. However you don't need Sketchup to search the 3D warehouse. Just go to http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=hilux+&styp=m&scoring=t&btnG=Search&start=12

Please add my name to the list if anyone ever finds a .dwg of the exterior. Thanks

Has anyone had luck with this yet?
I have been playing with settings and have gotten closer each time, but I haven't had the time to let the computer just sit for hours on end.
From the sounds of it the file was originally distributed in multiple formats?
    From Ralph:
    "Hi
actually I had the same 'problem' and got hands on a file in different file types of a 2012 Access cab....still interested?"

What other file types are available? I don't mind doing the leg work and sharing the end product with everyone, but I don't have much faith in IGS when compared to other file formats.

    Thanks!

I found some pretty good looking 3D models today. http://www.creativecrash.com/3d-model/toyota-tacoma-double-cab-2011-3d-model However, they are not free, they are for sale for $99. I can't blame them, they look pretty detailed and accurate. The other problem I have is that I'm using Sketchup, and they don't have that file type. They do have these file types for the double cab in the link:
    Formats:
    3D Studio (.3ds), Cinema 4D (.c4d) - v11, Autodesk FBX (.fbx), Lightwave (.lwo, .lw, .lws) - v6, Maya (.ma, .mb) - v8.5, OBJ (.obj), PDF (.pdf), 3ds Max (.max) - v2008, 3ds Max (.max) - v2008 vray

I'm a CAD novice, but I don't see some some of the more common file types on their list, but maybe this helps someone.

Any update on getting the IGES files to open and (hopefully) compress a bit? I tried on both SW 2011 and 2012 with no luck.

Thread revival. Still no luck on opening this. I just tried in Inventor. It opens but nothing is there. Everything is turned on, nothing is suppressed. I dunno what gives :notsure: I probably just downloaded a virus and our servers will blow up in approx. 2.16 minutes

I've just attempted to open the .iges with Solidworks 2013x64 and it continues to parse. I have a quad core i5, 16gb ddr3 ram, 512ssd. It's been a minute or two. I may attempt to open the file with Keyshot Pro, which should definitely open but allows visualization only. An option may be to open the file in keyshot and make orthographic views. It wouldn't be very accurate but it could work for simple fabrication.

    I like this idea.
Any idea why there is nothing there when I open it? I'm guessing it's got something to do with Inventor.....which is why we are switching to Solidworks. Funny you mentioned Keyshot... I just found out about that program last week at a Solidworks resellers office.

Is it safe to download? I'll give it a try in Solid Edge.

I downloaded it a few years ago. I can open it with inventor, creo, and Solidworks, but nothing appears.
