Ford may (that's really questionable, from my stand point) have improved their "quality" recently, but from the number of trucks I've going to the local dealer and the issues we've had with our fleet vehicles, you will not catch me buying one, even if I hit the lottery.

I want a 3/4 or 1 ton Toyota with a diesel, which will probably mean something in the 30,000 lbs. towing capacity range.. lol. I can finally move, just hook the Tundra up to my trailer and go..

Toyota made one as a concept for SEMA 2007. It has an 8.0L diesel from Hino that redlines at 2500 rpm. I think the faltering economy the next year eventually put a damper to the idea.

A lot of them are. Fleet sales aren't profitable, which is why Toyota traditionally didn't focus on them. I bet you Toyota makes more money on its trucks than any of the Big Three does.

Oh believe me, I know about the SEMA trucks. :D They were talking production at one point, but it wasn't going to be the 8.0L (something about it not passing the stupid fucking emissions regs in the US we have now on diesels.) They were talking like a 4.xL something like is in the Landcruiser over in Europe. A dually "3500" Tundra would suit me just fine... I need something to haul more firewood with lol. Gives me an excuse to turn my Taco into a full time trail rig too.

    answer below...
    Can't say I blame them.

I've had probably a dozen or more brand new Chebby/Jimmy trucks...5 new Corvettes...Tahoe's...Chevy Vans...

The politics of it all blows.

The F-150 costs less with rebates than the Tacoma.

don't be so sure about that...

That may be true for the new trucks - but as part of my cheap ass nature I only buy used trucks. I can't bring myself to be the guy to take that first hit. I bought my Tacoma used this year. I gave $14k for it and it Blue Booked at $16k easy.

Yeah every time i go to the service department at the local toyota dealership for an oil filter, i notice that they are NEVER as busy as the chevy, ford and dodge service departments. Hmm.

Tacoma's should be 4th. GMC and Chev are basically the same truck. Different badges and slight visual differences, both GM.

red herring. A quick glance looks like, most recent facelift ftw. Always the way.

Has toyota truck ever sold well in the us? outside hawaii, I sure feel like I'm alone (relatively) in my toyota fixation...

As for Toyota's selling well in the US - hell ya! The local Toyota dealership moves a couple of Tacomas a week on average. I keep a pretty close eye on their lot and they never seem to have the Tacomas on the lot long. They don't have a real big lot - and that might be part of their secret - but they move the trucks pretty quick.

That is a really good point. Toyota may be a top selling truck - but Ford/Dedger/Chebby have all been top sellers for years and years. That on top of the other classes of trucks the big three sell gives them a much larger count of trucks on the road.

The rusty frame issue - ya, that really isn't something I'm sure Toyota wants to bring up again.
