I was on twitter and noticed this fiberglass tonneau cover for the new Tacoma by A.R.E. Looks pretty sweet on the Inferno long bed TRD Sport 4x4. No big deal, thought I would share though.

that looks pretty slick. I'm getting white though, I don't think that would look good.

What is the appeal of the rigid tonneau cover? Not trying to troll, just curious. It seems like it combines the worst aspects of the other two options (trifold/roll-up tonneau vs. shell). i.e. it severely limits your cargo height and is difficult to remove. Is the appeal purely aesthetic?

I always thought the most practical solution would be a rigid cover with a laterally-hinged split hatch (like the space shuttle), so you could still haul a fridge or other tall cargo if needed. Does this not exist? A Google search came up empty.

prob due you cant access the bed from the sides, pretty dam inconvenient. also you would have to have a rigid shell. if you had a soft shell you would need a center support to hold the cover up.

It's not like the single-piece rigid covers lend themselves to side access either. Even fully open, you can't really load anything much bigger than a 12-pack from the side.

They will make it in all the OEM colors. So you can also get it in a white that matches your truck. Just like all the toppers they make.

haha, no that's not at all what i meant. i think the cover looks great on an inferno tacoma, as stated. i think a matching (white) cover would not look nearly as good on a white truck. that was the point of my original post: a white cover would look bad.

I've had a couple. Snuglid makes a nice one. They are for sporty looks. And a measured level of security.

Agreed May as well buy a cap or a roll up tonneau. I had an Undercover on my 08. Terrible idea

Could not use most of the bed with it up. Had to come off to use the bed efficiently. Now I buy TruxSport Roll ups. Cannot be opened with the tailgate locked
